Low pay, Out-of-touch Management, HR will never help you

Management and pay are horrendous. You absolutely cannot survive on a zoo salary, even after being there for years as a full-time employee. Management looks down on employees and if you speak up, prepare to be railroaded out of your job or made so miserable that you will leave on your own accord. I've watched management force out the good employees in order to keep their own, personal friends employed. I've watched them bad mouth my co-workers behind their backs and tell me to my face that they are going to get them out. I've watched them take steps backwards in processes simply because they refuse to admit there may be a better, more modern way of doing things. I've watched good employees quit on the spot and walk out because they cannot deal with it any longer. Management will make a big deal out of working for a non-profit so the pay is low, but that is just an excuse. Take a look at the public financial records on the website and you'll see who is really lining their own pockets - the executive team sure isn't living paycheck to paycheck. No opportunity to move up unless someone leaves - prepare to be stuck in the same job, year after year, unless you're lucky enough to find a different position in the zoo to move to when someone inevitably quits. Work here for a temp job, but do yourself a favor and find a full-time job elsewhere. These people will work you to death for peanuts, and you will never be appreciated.
