Pros

If you can get a job in this economy at Premera, probably a good reason to work there. Otherwise, I can't think of any other reason you would want to work there.

Cons

Very crowded office facilities and parking (even in a suburban community). Senior management is very disconnected from the real workers. Senior management chooses financial motives over all else including customers, health plan member welfare, and especially employees. Stingy stingy stingy raises and very rarely provides bonuses (none for hourly). Their "holiday" gifts are insulting...I wish they would just use the money for charity. Not a marketing or customer driven culture. If you can sell health insurance, they'll love you...everyone else, take a back seat.

Pros

Great medical benefits. Other than that not much of anything.

Cons

Don't expect the right things to get done and don't expect skilled management. Management here leaves little to be desired. Not only are they incapable of basic management tasks they have no idea of the technology that they manage. In addition, if you are use to working in a slow-paced environment such as the government then Premera will suit you. Management does not support their direct reports either professionally or personally. There is no work/life balance so don't come here expecting it. Furthermore, if you happen to be an engineer or a manager of engineers beware of the sr. manager of engineering. Beware.

Pros

If you have a lot of initiative and ambition, you can build a career around your own strengths. The line employees are great - professional, supportive, openly share information. Competitive salary and benefits. Good location for anyone who lives north of Seattle. Free parking.

Cons

No one is ever good enough -- unless they happen to be some manager's favorite. There's a LOT of politicking and silo priorities in the senior ranks. Initiatives, strategies, projects start and stop constantly depending on who won the latest round in the C suite. Directors and above are hyper critical of each other's employees, often in public settings.
