Pros

I have been at Premera for almost four years. I love what I do, and I really like the team I am a part of. I enjoy the good medical benefits and appreciate the generous PTO. This is the largest company I have ever worked for, and I appreciate having cafe's to eat in, and even lockers and showers if I choose to bike to work. I am grateful for the work/life balance offered here.

Cons

With all of the lay-offs over the past few years, there is an underlying vibe of fear among many employees. We don't know when the next re-org will happen and how many of us will be taken down with it. It doesn't matter how many times Premera says, "thank you" or provides us with small gifts of appreciation; we are grateful, but still fearful. I'd like to think I could stay and retire from Premera, but next week my job could just... go away. It's a challenge to always do the very best I can, when that fear is in the back of my mind. Also, while our health insurance benefit levels have remained very good, the cost has gone up dramatically over the past few years. Higher deductibles, lower employer contributions toward deductibles, removing employer contributions for spouses, and lowering the wellness incentive (while making it more challenging to obtain). I'm glad it appears there will not be additional changes for the coming benefit year.

It is great to hear that you find value in the amenities, benefits, and your team at Premera! Even when it’s for all the right reasons, change can be hard. Business decisions, such as reorganizations, that affect our employees are made with careful consideration and to support Premera’s commitment to our customers. We recognize an opportunity to continue improving communication. It's important employees have a good understanding of the philosophy behind these decisions and the goals and imperatives we have laid out for the coming years. Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback.

Pros

I have worked in IT at Premera for a very long time. Premera does offer outstanding work/life balance. All in all I have been treated fairly well in the compensation area. The people are by far the best part of the job. Premera does well in regards to training and there is room for growth - to a point. Myself, I have hit a career path ceiling that I don't see a way to break through.

Cons

IT Management, both mid-level and upper have some issues. They continue to increase workload without adding resources. Obtaining approval for additional head count is like pulling hens teeth - impossible - unless you are one of leaderships golden children. They say they will listen to Associates in this regard but never do. This year they mandated a reduction in the number of high ratings managers could give out. This rating has everything to do with my pay and bonus. Being told that you are no longer a 4, and that working at a very high level no longer qualifies you as a 4 sucks. Especially when they can't tell you how you can improve to become a 4 once again. I now feel very under appreciated and undervalued.

We couldn't agree more - the people at Premera are the best part of the job! Ongoing performance discussions are a very important part of remaining aligned with our purpose and to providing continued growth and engagement for employees. Unfortunately, it sounds like your annual performance review conversation did not go as you had hoped. As an organization we have not mandated a reduction in high ratings. However, we hope you saw a recent communication outlining the updates to the performance review process. This change will help to support performance conversations and provide opportunity to further recognize employees for the outstanding work being performed. We'd like to thank you for the opportunity to continue learning from your feedback. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your leader or Human Resources if you'd like to continue this discussion.

Pros

People are great, lots of growth, pretty transparent, good pay, good communication, good support, telecommuting options within many positions. Premera cares about their customers and we are all customers.

Cons

Bring your lunch! Food is mediocre at best! Medical coverage (insurance) is only OK. Continue expanding telecommuting, if it is an option then it should be approved.

First, thank you for all you do to support our customers. You are absolutely right - our employees and support teams are the very best. When it comes to telecommuting, this can be more feasible in some areas versus others, but we appreciate the feedback. We welcome the opportunity for further discussion around both benefits and food options provided at Premera.
