Pros

Independence to do your job

Cons

Waiting two months for pay. Lack of incentives, poor management. Admin knows nothing about therapy. Account managers are a joke. Company receives money upfront... therapists get paid 2 months after services have been provided.

Pros

1. The people. They hire talented, passionate and smart people. 2. The product. 3. The reason they exist. Helping kids on a daily basis and having an impact on their lives is extremely fulfilling.

Cons

The secret, which I learned after I was hired, is that one of the CEO's has an awfully short temper and pronounced lack of maturity. He has tantrums and yells things that you would expect only out of the mouth of a poorly parented teenager. If you get on his bad side for whatever reason (and the reasons can be somewhat unpredictable), your time with the company will be, as Thomas Hobbes put it, “Nasty, brutish, and short.” I witnessed this time and again. And again. He also seems to have little awareness that the walls are thin and we can hear him yelling through them. So if you’re lucky enough to stay on the guy’s good side, it’s all roses and butterflies. If you don’t…yikes.

Pros

You have the ability to work from home as long as you have a computer and strong internet connection. You also get to manage your own schedule.

Cons

Fully independent contractor - no benefits and you are solely liable based on extensive contract you are required to sign (read contract very carefully before signing). Also, supports that are supposed to be in place with families/schools (parent or paraprofessional available during sessions) often not in place, making effective therapy very difficult and frustrating. Also, therapist has to account for all minutes billed, down to the minute details. Making every communication/phone call/email/meeting (and there will be A LOT of them), along with all other type of therapy documentation is very time consuming. You will be questioned about spending time on all this documentation and communication, and limited on what you can bill for it, yet you won't be an effective therapist in this practice model without doing all of this.
