An Absolute Nightmare That I'm Still Recovering From
Pros
Company mission and dedicated, lovely employees outside of leadership
Cons
My time at Presence was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment I joined the first Zoom call, I could feel the toxicity seeping through my computer. The company's culture was undoubtedly one of the most poisonous and unbearable work environments I have ever encountered. What truly amplified the distressing atmosphere was one executive in particular who displayed a consistent pattern of treating others with contempt and disrespect. It was disheartening to witness such a high-ranking executive, whose role should be to foster a supportive and inclusive workplace, engaging in behavior that directly contradicts the values of professionalism and common decency. An extreme lack of empathy was evident in every interaction with several executive leadership team members. They disregarded the concerns and suggestions of employees, dismissing them as inconsequential. Instead of fostering an open dialogue, many perpetuated a culture of fear and intimidation, where employees were hesitant to voice their opinions for fear of retribution. Their arrogance and condescension were palpable, leaving many of us demoralized and stripped of our self-worth. Presence's failure to cultivate a healthy and respectful work environment had a detrimental impact on morale, creativity, and productivity. It was disheartening to see talented individuals crushed under the weight of an oppressive culture. The negative ripple effect spread throughout the entire organization, stifling innovation and preventing growth. Furthermore, the detrimental effects of working in such a toxic environment with absolutely no work/life balance extended beyond the emotional toll. The chronic stress I endured at Presence took a severe toll on my physical health as well. The constant state of anxiety and distress resulted in a significant weight gain. The toll on my mental well-being was so severe that I had to resort to medication to manage my anxiety for the first time in my life. No job should come at the expense of one's health, both mentally and physically. The complete disregard for the well-being of the workforce is not only reprehensible but also a clear indicator of a company's lack of integrity and compassion. I would caution anyone considering working at Presence to seriously reconsider, as it is an environment that will undoubtedly drain the life out of even the most resilient individuals.
