An Absolute Nightmare That I'm Still Recovering From

Pros

Company mission and dedicated, lovely employees outside of leadership

Cons

My time at Presence was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment I joined the first Zoom call, I could feel the toxicity seeping through my computer. The company's culture was undoubtedly one of the most poisonous and unbearable work environments I have ever encountered. What truly amplified the distressing atmosphere was one executive in particular who displayed a consistent pattern of treating others with contempt and disrespect. It was disheartening to witness such a high-ranking executive, whose role should be to foster a supportive and inclusive workplace, engaging in behavior that directly contradicts the values of professionalism and common decency. An extreme lack of empathy was evident in every interaction with several executive leadership team members. They disregarded the concerns and suggestions of employees, dismissing them as inconsequential. Instead of fostering an open dialogue, many perpetuated a culture of fear and intimidation, where employees were hesitant to voice their opinions for fear of retribution. Their arrogance and condescension were palpable, leaving many of us demoralized and stripped of our self-worth. Presence's failure to cultivate a healthy and respectful work environment had a detrimental impact on morale, creativity, and productivity. It was disheartening to see talented individuals crushed under the weight of an oppressive culture. The negative ripple effect spread throughout the entire organization, stifling innovation and preventing growth. Furthermore, the detrimental effects of working in such a toxic environment with absolutely no work/life balance extended beyond the emotional toll. The chronic stress I endured at Presence took a severe toll on my physical health as well. The constant state of anxiety and distress resulted in a significant weight gain. The toll on my mental well-being was so severe that I had to resort to medication to manage my anxiety for the first time in my life. No job should come at the expense of one's health, both mentally and physically. The complete disregard for the well-being of the workforce is not only reprehensible but also a clear indicator of a company's lack of integrity and compassion. I would caution anyone considering working at Presence to seriously reconsider, as it is an environment that will undoubtedly drain the life out of even the most resilient individuals.

Pros

Work from home opportunity. Being able to provide services to students that need therapy all over the country.

Cons

The CEO and leadership does not care about their providers or the mission of the company. It is constant disingenuous lip service and all about money. They clearly have enough money to purchase other companies but not enough to pay their providers a living wage especially in these times of inflation. I’ve always advocated for PL with friends because of the support I’ve received from my CAMs but at the end of the day that is not enough to keep me. The “Good Boss” author is far from. Run away as fast as you can. Smaller companies will treat you as more than just a number.

Understanding our employees' and providers' real-time feedback and concerns is crucial to ensure PL focuses on the right things. Our providers' contributions are deeply valued, and we simply could not achieve our mission without them. So much so that caring is incorporated into our company values (We Care, We Learn, We Strive, and We Help). We appreciate so much when our employees give us direct feedback and are always willing to learn from it and act on it to keep improving. We would welcome a direct conversation with you to learn more about and address your specific concerns.

Pros

Sometimes you work so many hours you get a large check. But then you're on a 1099 so you end up paying it all back at the ens of the year.

Cons

No loyalty to contractors, report mill and if you try to tailor reports to help and support the students you get in trouble. Minimal video-based training with no support other than people telling you to work faster. Feel bad for districts who contract with this place it's all smoke and mirrors. They snag a district then throw all the evaluations in a spreadsheet and tell all the psychs here you go . Most of the time psychs take more than they can complete and the district is left holding the bag at the end of the year. Worst untrained middle management personnel and poorly organized. Frequently make promises they cannot keep just to make a dollar. So sad how they trick districts into purchasing such an overpriced system then never deliver.

We are sorry to hear that you’ve had a negative experience in your work with PL. We appreciate that the work we do in support of school special education teams requires supporting and prioritizing a quality experience for many important stakeholders - for our students, our school partners, our PL employees, and certainly for our clinical contractors like you. We do our best to match our school psychologist contractors with school teams that will be a great fit for their clinical approach. When there is mis-alignment we learn from it and continue improving, so thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us!
