Pros

Reading Partners has a great mission and vision. They seek to ensure success for elementary aged students in low income/diverse communities by engaging community members to volunteer.

Cons

A very "top-heavy" org--in my 15 years of experience in the non-profit sector, I have not seen this many higher-ups. Several Executives that I worked with were very power hungry.

Pros

I know the word, "rewarding" is used a lot when talking about this organization, but I honestly don't think there could be a more rewarding group to be a part of. You can actually see the growth that students are making in Reading Partners, and with that, their confidence as students really starts to shine. I was also impressed to learn how many opportunities for growth and development the organization offers to young professionals. It's also fantastic how willing managers are to receive feedback and work with you to ultimately create the best possible outcome for our students.

Cons

I've been with the organization for a couple years now, and the only negative feedback I have is only relevant to a small handful of employees. There have been a couple people who are unpleasant to work with. Nothing is more stressful than working around peers who have bad attitudes, and there have been a couple cliquey, snotty team members in the past. Fortunately, they have left or are int he process of leaving the organization. I think they were just bad apples, though, and I have no negative opinions of Reading Partners Tulsa itself.

Pros

Rewarding work, but minimal acknowledgement from management.

Cons

Management has little interest in hearing about issues they would prefer not to address. This makes it nearly impossible to ask for help when struggling. Their biggest concern is numbers that they can use to promote themselves. This means they will overload coordinators to achieve their bottom line, even when this is to the detriment of the program. Pay is unlivable and not worth balancing the job stress with cost of living stress.
