Pros

Reading Partners gives their AmeriCorps members invaluable training and experience. The professional development is actually useful. Despite usually being fresh out of college, ACMs are given real responsibilities and the ability to make choices in their work. Supervisors are extremely helpful and supportive of ACMs, especially when it comes to professional development or next steps after the term of service.

Cons

There is no PTO; every hour that you miss, you must make up somewhere. Likewise, ACMs usually work longer than 8 hours/day. 10-11 hours is normal. The strict divide between AmeriCorps members and staff can create some awkward office politics.
