Pros

Because there are many former educators on staff, Reading Partners has a fantastic culture of learning and improvement. The program is wonderful and the significant program structure that's been built over the years means it's scalable and great for plugging in AmeriCorps members and volunteers.

Cons

During the time I was there, I was exceeding goals and performing very highly, but was paid significantly under market. I do think that at least at that time, there was some taking advantage of mission-driven younger professionals. Similarly work/life balance was poor at that time. There was no way to be successful in your role without night and weekend work.

Pros

I had a great program manager who advocated for her Site Coordinators and the centers that she supervised. There were opportunities for AmeriCorps members to provide constructive feedback through committees and surveys. The professional developments were tailored to the needs of the members. I met a lot of wonderful like minded people who came from a variety of working backgrounds.

Cons

The communication was not as strong amidst people who worked there. It is a small staff which made gossip and rumors rampant through the bigger group of AmeriCorps Members. The work was often tiring and was hard to complete at times.

Pros

Important mission serving great need in the community. Children need this support to succeed in life.

Cons

It is a leaderless organization without a CEO since 2015. Completely inefficient with lack of professionalism and accountability. Poor productivity and communication. If any movement on initiatives, it is complete chaos, not fully thought out and rooted in complete nonsense only creating more work with negative impact on productivity. I've never seen such mismanagement in my entire career.
