Mission-driven organization with incredible talent

Pros

Reading Partners is powered by some of the most passionate, kind people I have ever met -- from the AmeriCorps members in schools to the leadership team. The organization is not afraid to tackle big challenges and does so with a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach. The work is difficult, but it is very rare to feel like you are without a support system. The culture is incredibly team-based and is highly cooperative. If you are looking to work for an organization making a meaningful impact on an individual, community, and national level, Reading Partners is the place to be.

Cons

Reading Partners is very focused on growth and scale, and this type of fast-paced change is not for everyone. Sometimes the org-wide decisions being made aren't contextualized or communicated well to all regions or employees. Also, almost all employees are expected to wear many hats in their roles, which can be frustrating for some people (but exciting / good exposure for others). While Reading Partners does a phenomenal job recruiting great talent, they could do a better job with staff retention and diversity.

Pros

Great company for people who are interested in giving back to the community by mentoring/tutoring a child in literacy.

Cons

There isn't very much in person training. They send you video's, but it helps to watch another tutor show how the lesson is done.

Pros

I know the word, "rewarding" is used a lot when talking about this organization, but I honestly don't think there could be a more rewarding group to be a part of. You can actually see the growth that students are making in Reading Partners, and with that, their confidence as students really starts to shine. I was also impressed to learn how many opportunities for growth and development the organization offers to young professionals. It's also fantastic how willing managers are to receive feedback and work with you to ultimately create the best possible outcome for our students.

Cons

I've been with the organization for a couple years now, and the only negative feedback I have is only relevant to a small handful of employees. There have been a couple people who are unpleasant to work with. Nothing is more stressful than working around peers who have bad attitudes, and there have been a couple cliquey, snotty team members in the past. Fortunately, they have left or are int he process of leaving the organization. I think they were just bad apples, though, and I have no negative opinions of Reading Partners Tulsa itself.
