Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I'm saddened to read about your experience and I'm glad that you know that I have good intentions. You're right that I do care deeply about our mission and our team. I also completely agree that we have strong talent at the operating level of the company. Building a rapidly growing business is hard and, with growth, it's often a good thing when new executives come into the business that have scale leadership/management experience. I'm grateful for the new executives that have joined in the last year as well as the reorgs that we've done to shift responsibilities ... I believe they're doing a lot of the things you mention below -- empowering the team to build a phenomenal product and service for our customers. I will also continue to introspect per your note below to ensure that no other changes need to be made to empower our team. With that context, I'd really value the opportunity to speak with you to understand specifically where you had issues. This will help us improve as a business and help us fulfill our mission, which I know we both care about deeply. You can reach me at matt@remitly.com.

Pros

Startup. So if you like crowded floors, open space ""collaborative"", noisy environment, with the illusion you'll say something and people will listen, this is definitely for you.

Cons

Benefits suck. It is a total boys club. Have you heard of the silicon valley crisis regarding startups and the tech industry in general? Well, you don't have to go to the bay area to get a first hand experience. Remitly is the representation of frat/boys club startups in the pacific northwest. Forget about career advancement. Be ready for strategy changes every week.

Thank you for your feedback. While it is very painful for me to read, I care a lot about you and your experience at Remitly. I don’t want to build a boys club. Diversity in gender, race, religion, are both personal and company goals. Remitly takes this journey seriously and has proactively hired women into 44% of our engineering and technical roles over the past year. We will remain committed to this goal as we continue to grow. While we always test and try new tactics every week, our mission has and will always be the same, to tirelessly deliver on our promise to immigrants sending money across the world. Finally -- I would really value an in person conversation with you about these issues so I can fully understand your thoughts and make sure you are being heard. Can you email me / contact me directly so we can setup a time to speak?

Pros

Remote/hybrid work options, customer-centric mission, interesting work, reasonable hours, competitive pay, fun office environment, weekly lunches, verbal recognition of good work

Cons

The company markets a mission of serving immigrants but ironically the leadership is comprised mainly of white men and women who seem to discriminate against workers of color. There has been an exodus of minority talent and the company won’t release attrition data by gender/race. Steer clear if you are a woman of color and want to keep your mental health intact.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m glad that you appreciated our customer centric mission and culture. Overall though, I’m sorry to hear that you’re no longer with the company and that your experience at Remitly was not positive. I care deeply about fostering an equitable workplace where diverse talent thrives and every Remitlian feels recognized and included. It’s an ongoing journey that we are committed to, and we will continue to invest in our DEI initiatives like affinity groups and related employee resources and training, as well as continuously improve our capabilities around voluntary self-ID and reporting to help us better understand how we can support varied lived experiences and identities of our teammates. I will take your feedback to heart that we still have work to do. Thank you again for sharing and for your contributions to Remitly during your three years with the company.
