Pros

Good work life balance with split-shift

Cons

Management is stretched too thin. A month into the job and I still barely had any understanding of what I was supposed to be doing in my role because my area manager always had to be somewhere else and was never able to spend any time actually training me.

Hi there! This is Michelle from Right At School. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re glad to hear the split-shift schedule has worked well for your work-life balance. We know that can be a benefit for many team members. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve felt unsupported in your training. Getting our team properly trained and set up for success is very important to us. I completely understand how frustrating it must feel to be a month in and still have questions about your role. While Area Managers working one on one with our team members is important, we also have several other training methods and options beyond that to ensure a good understanding of the role and responsibilities. I would really appreciate the opportunity to chat with you about this and understand where those other options may not have been offered or worked for you so we can continue to learn, grow, and improve. My email is michelle.keene@rightatschool.com if you want to reach out for a quick chat. Thank you!

Pros

I like my work. Coworkers are great, and I love my supervisors. I like split shift. 401k is great.

Cons

They need to give staff 40 hours in a week, not 32 plus. Program Managers should be salaried. Pay is not high enough when you have really invested staff and high behaviors. You get your share of lazy staff where the wage is fitting, but it rubs stellar staff the wrong way to not receive more. Childcare turnover is atrocious no matter the company, but it is due to systemic issues that nobody wants to change. This results in so many programs failing. I have worked other similar programs and their model is to maximize their profit. They give you a very small amount of materials, and fill the day with 3 movement and/or outdoor stuff to hide the fact the money goes toward profit. They provide a curriculum that is way too much for one day, and it is not feasable. I have years of experience and I have to adapt it. It is not written for the 18 year old who took the job as a stepping stone. It is written from the perspective of corporate and administrative veterans. I wish I could do my own curriculum. I get many arent trained to and will stick coloring sheets in front of the kids or find pinterest crafts. I also want to do their billing as I am a trained biller. Yet most arent, or they give parents what they want because of favoritism/being close to their families.

Hi! This is Michelle from Right At School. Thank you so much for your feedback. It is great to hear that you’ve found opportunities to grow and gain experience. So many of our team members greatly value having opportunities to grow with RAS. We understand that the spilt shift schedule can be challenging depending on individual needs. The structure of before/after school programs does mean hours can be more limited, and we recognize that it is not the right fit for everyone. If you’re willing to share more feedback, I can be reached at michelle.keene@rightatschool. I would love to get the chance to connect and learn more from you. Thanks again!
