Pros

Lower level people are awesome despite how they are treated Work from home is nice

Cons

To be belittled, misunderstood, and have accusations tossed around by a supervisor has completely blown my mind. I sucked up a past supervisor denying me bereavement when my brother passed away, I worked the long overtime hours when the team was behind, and I even had a coworker on the phone the day the layoffs took place that was freaking out when their slack was deactivated before they were even told that they were being let go and of course was asked if they were deactivated and I had to tell them that they were because one thing I refuse to do is lie, but a line has to be drawn in the sand somewhere. First we were all told to just don’t be anxious, but some of us are medically diagnosed with anxiety and it is not that easy to just not be anxious. Then one person was told that while they aren’t very positive, they have a pretty face and people listen to leaders who are pretty people (hearing this one completely threw me because I thought Root was rooted in the morals of equality). Then having miscommunications that are not discussed, but rather added to a recap as accusations that can be harmful to an employee. Let’s not forget rather than coaching a person they were told that it wouldn’t be surprising if they were fired tomorrow. I understand being straight forward, but a team must also be lead with empathy and coaching first and foremost. This is not something that has been seen or felt in the last two weeks or so. Then in the meeting it really came off as everything we have accomplished and worked hard for so far just doesn’t matter and we have to start over from scratch. In my 1:1 it was literally said that the past doesn’t matter. However for a few of us, we are more tenured within our department and our pasts absolutely do matter because they show how far we have come, they show our contributions, accomplishments, and strengths as well as weaknesses. The past lays the brick work for the future and it not mattering and things only mattering from now on is a complete deterrent to everybody in this team because we have all grown so much, accomplished so much, and it is unfair for us to have to start from scratch and not be reviewed with how far we have come.

Pros

Fast paced, startup nature with a need to provide input to help build platforms and processes. Vibrant company culture overall.

Cons

Senior Claims leadership team seemed like an exclusive fraternity with a lot of past employer connections. Some promotions were questionable and many lost trust in some decisions being made above. A lot of surprises with the people who have left. Work constantly shifting due to turnover, leading to burnout. Focus has shifted to a ‘non-standard’ book of business, cutting corners in policy. Concerned about the emphasis on growing fast, regardless of the challenges ahead.
