Pros

1. Lax culture 2. Okay pay 3. Job security after the big layoff

Cons

1.Clueless leadership, poor product vision 2.Can't retain talents. 3.Can't compete with legacy insurance on probability. 4.The telematic is not a competitive edge, it is a liability to growth and it is also really broken. 5. Cash is burning fast, if you just do the simple math, the company won't survive long.

Pros

Work from home is nice

Cons

This company does not care about their employees, they just laid off over 400 people this past January and outsourced claims to Mexico. Only after forcefully transferring customer service reps to claims when they laid off over half of the claims department which they are now moving the remaining claims reps to customer service and those customer service reps back as well.

Pros

There are some really smart, empathetic and kind people working for the business in the middle management and down levels. The product itself is solid, though pricing concerns via the pandemic will make for a poor user experience and a bumpy road for the next 1-3 years.

Cons

The leadership at Root is in flux with many of company leaders exiting late in 2021 or early 2022 (Product, Engineering, Marketing etc.). This has lead to unclear direction, moving goal posts, and overall lack of progress towards goals that would drive the business in the right direction. For a mid-sized company its really surprising how little the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. A great example of this is Root actively hiring throughout Q4 of 2021 before having to layoff 20% of the global workforce in Jan 2022. Many people worked for the company for a quarter or less. Generally teams are silo'd off from other areas of the business and processes, documentation, and frameworks are not built, maintained, or mature enough to support a business of the size Root currently is.
