Great Culture and Company, Struggling HR Department

Pros

Root Insurance is hands down one of the best software engineer firms in the Midwest. The culture they have built, the learning opportunities, and the ability to move up and grow in the profession is second to none. Work-life balance is excellent, and perks such as free lunch every day are icing on the cake.

Cons

ROOT's HR and benefits departments really need to get their act together. Having worked at a few other technology companies, ROOT has presented difficulty with redeeming benefits listed in the offer letter which other companies readily hand out. Additionally, I had a bad experience with offer negotiation, to the point where I came away from the conversation feeling devalued and unmotivated.

Free catered lunches . Health insurance is available .

Cons

Bilinguals are expected to meet email time requirement but they don’t assign time in their schedule . You feel like a robot or like a slave machine constantly getting feedback on numbers even when you are hitting the goal . Supervisors I guess need to justify their checks by constantly micro managing their reps .

Catered lunches, and no premiums for employee only health insurance

Cons

Bilinguals do not get paid any more then a regular rep, it is an email and phone job but bilinguals get no email time since “if they are on the phones they cover more service” but “we do not use our skill enough to get paid more for it” which was contradicting and upsetting
