Pros

You can make money if your good at sales. However, it depends on the community they decide to put you in. That makes ALL the difference. They offer some nice designs and floor plans.

Cons

Their pay structure is hokey. The more you sell, the less they pay you per sale. It's a quota system that really caps your earning potential. You wont make the promised 6 figures unless your in tight with management. They decide what deals get approved and which don't, it all depends if they are cranky that day or not. You'll go months without making anything if the community is slow (which most are). They build an awful home. The quality is simply appalling at times (check their reviews anywhere online). When its not appalling, it sub-par at best. They really don't care much about how well the home is built, just how fast it can be slapped together so they can get paid. The coworkers have a negative mentality and are very "clicky". The environment at Ryan Homes in the Dayton Division was just so sour. Its ran like a daycare. Most of the sales staff are drugged out of their minds because of the pressures management put on us. Several people came and left during my three years here and they all said the same thing. Very negative group of people (sales, management, office). You only have one life, try and enjoy it by working for a company that values you - unfortunately, Ryan Homes is not that company.

Pros

They pay well in order because it's the only way to get people to stay with the company. If you're looking for stability, this company will probably always do well because of it's ruthless pursuit of profit.

Cons

The ONLY motivating force in the company (and parent company NVR) is DIRECT PROFIT. Since the ascendancy of Paul Seville (bean counter) no decision is made without considering the impact on DIRECT PROFIT. As an employee you are completely expendable and your career at Ryan Homes is dictated by DIRECT PROFIT. You can be promoted and demoted at the drop of a hat as it impacts DIRECT PROFIT. If you are a customer, your relationship with the company is guided solely by DIRECT PROFIT. If you are a vendor or supplier, your relationship with the company is completely dependent on DIRECT PROFIT. There are no long term relationships with this company, everything (and I mean everything) is leased so it is disposable, including equipment, supplies and people. This is a VERY insular and old fashioned company that is a bad environment for creative thinkers. If you work here, you follow the processes with no deviation or suffer the consequences. This also goes for subs and customers.

Pros

Solid company, good training, decent benefits. You get one weekend off a month if you want to use that time instead of your normal two workdays off.

Cons

BEWARE! There was a recent change in the policy for the sales person to sign a sheet that says that if you leave the company, Ryan Homes can now KEEP COMMISSIONS LEGITIMATELY EARNED ON CLOSED SALES and use them to pay themselves back any partial commission advances that have been given and they have the right to recover any additional advances, including going into your bank account to take out money from the deposited paycheck is a huge morale killer for the sales team. It is all very shady and unless you have sold NOTHING in many months (hence earned nothing). You will likely owe the company tens of thousands of dollars which are due upon termination!
