Sorry for hear you feel senior management is out of touch with the market. The company is consistently reviewing benchmarking and listening to our employees. We conduct and thoroughly review our annual employee satisfaction surveys and request employee suggestions year-round as well. We listen to the needs of our employees and have made changes each year based on their recommendations and concerns. The challenge between Paid-Time-Off (PTO) vs multiple leave buckets is viewed very differently depending on each employee's needs. Offering PTO allows employees the most flexible leave option, which is why we chose to keep our paid leave in one bucket. Thanks for the review.

Pros

Great benefits, 3 weeks of PTO from your start date and competent leadership. SMS was up front and took care of its employees, everyone from HR to management made sure you were happy and welcome, and were very appreciative of the work done.

Cons

Dealing with government employees as an employee operating on a contract can often be stressful for a multitude of reasons, mostly due to the government employees being incompetent. This had nothing to do with SMS though.

Pros

No drama operation. Good training benefits for certifications, even the really expensive ones. They let me just do my job with minimal micromanagement. Accommodating with life/family issues impacting work shift.

Cons

Salaries are wildly inconsistent between co-workers. Even if you took the time to negotiate, you find out the slackers on the team are $20k more than you with less experience and certifications.

We're glad you appreciated our rich professional development benefits. Training and development are very important at SMS, which is why we cover so many options and costs. We do our best to keep compensation consistent within positions, however there are often times someone may be more qualified or brings more to table than another team member. I am unaware of any position having such a discrepancy in compensation and would bet numbers are not being accurately disclosed. Regardless, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
