Thanks for the review. SMS is a mid-size company with roughly 550 employees. We strive to provide competitve pay and rich benefits to all employees. Retaining our great employees is a huge key to the success of SMS. We are growing substantially and have many open positions throughout the US. We highly support our brave military personnel and offer two weeks of paid military leave for all those serving. We also work closely with our reservist to ensure they and their families are taken care of during long deployments. I'm sorry to hear you have left SMS, but we welcome you back to SMS should the opportunity arise in the future. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! -- Melanie, Vice President of Human Resources

Thanks for the review! SMS strives to provide competitive pay and great benefits to all employees. I'm glad you agree. :) We actually have over 50 contracts throughout the US serving various agencies from the Army, Air Force, DHS, NGA, FEMA and more. We are still growing our San Antonio presence, but hope to have many more contract options for our employees in the near future. We absolutely love the San Antonio area and have some of the brightest engineers on our contracts. Our business development team is actively pursuing many more options. Thanks for taking the time to review SMS and provide your feedback!! -- Melanie, Vice President, Human Resources

Pros

--Willing to pay for certs --Very little micromanagement when contracting out

Cons

--After going through a single scope background investigation, SMS offered me a $25k salary for a position I'd learned of through a friend that I knew was starting at $40k, citing my lack of experience. I stated that I had already found another position that was offering me $40k, and they IMMEDIATELY said that they could do $40k. --Was promised performance reviews which would lead to salary negotiations. Neither ever occurred. --No transparency in regards to the future of our jobs when client contract was up for renewal. We were given misinformation in regards to whether we would continue to work for SMS, be moved to another company that would take over the contract, or continue to be employed on the contract at all. Were finally given correct details about a week prior to contract transition, which basicaly equated to, "We have no other positions available for you, so if you want to keep your jobs, you have no option other than to transition to the new company which will take over the contract."

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with SMS! I assure you this is not how we operate. SMS understands the value of our employees and do a great deal of research on an annual basis to ensure we offer fair compensation based on experience and qualifications. We also do performance evaluations on an annual basis for our employees every November, so I'm unsure as to why you would not have had one unless you left prior to the evaluation period. Additionally we do our best to find other opportunities for our employees when a contract ends. Unfortunately we cannot always find other contracts to transfer our employees too depending on individual qualifications. When that is the situation, we recommend transitioning with the new prime if you enjoy the work. We hate losing SMS employees, but unfortunately that is the nature of the federal contract world at times. If you see another opportunity with SMS in the future, I welcome you to contact me. Hopefully you'll see the better side of SMS. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. --- Melanie Shipley, Vice President, Human Resources
