Pros

Safeway offers it management team great benefits. It also has many opportunities for advancement as the company is a dirt to table producer of their store branded items. Safeway is also focused on being socially and environmentally conscience about their natural and organic store brands.

Cons

Living in an area where with lower population does not allow for the quick advancement. If you are planning on a career with this company, then either focus on Point of Sales or Corporate. Transitioning between the two, while it does happen, is rare.

Pros

Great company when owned and operated by Dimatteo family then Safeway bought it and have done a wonderful job of running it into the ground.

Cons

Safeway's "My way or the highway approach/one size fits all'" Does not to this day understand the Chicago market and its diverse clietele. Company functions in an atmosphere of fear, negative reinforcement, and micromanagement. George Orwell's "1984" is a perfect analogy to how this company works. The "Peter Principal" is alive and well here. Watch your back..."They smile in your face all the while they want you replaced...the BACKSTABBERS" Cameras,Cameras,Cameras

Pros

great advancement opportunities, potential to make 6 figures with a bonus as a manager, excellent benefits if you work for a non union store, union stores do not offer as much and the whole benefit package is different

Cons

very stressful, high demands, very "corporate" and all about policy, no grey, all black or white, they say that they are family oriented but when you are salary as a manager or assistant it seems like you can't be sick and your always on call, you cant even shop in the store on your own time without being asked tons of questions so you pretty much have to shop else where
