Pros

Everybody has to eat. Good company to work for during these hard times. Good concepts on marketing/merchandising.

Cons

Evaluated on every possible aspect of the job. Never a simple "thanks" or "good job" Don't practice what they preach on quality of life. Many managers work 60+ hours a week as salary employees.

Pros

Eventually decent wages, after working there for ahwile. Decent benefits.

Cons

Safeway used to offer a fun relaxed working environment. Everybody was a family. They used to have event throughout the year for employees, ie. beach picnics, bbq's and an annual banquet. They also used to be one of the higher paying grocers, but their wages stopped going up about 10 years ago. They used to have an intense "Store Manager" training program, now I see them on "craigslist" looking for managers. Crazy.
