Pros

- Industry leading product, phenomenal senior and product leadership. - Competitive perks. High risk high reward in sales. Team level events and spiffs frequently. - Pay is competitive if you are a top performer. If you had no experience selling into telematics or blue collar industries, it will be a learning curve from a customer interactions perspective. This can be a pro because those who gel with the sale, which depending on if you're in a role with smaller or event mid-market, can be fairly simple and transactional. The top performers tend to be inner promotes from sales development, who have dealt with blue collar buyers before.

Cons

- Reactive sales management that seems to not be able to keep track of their frequently shifting policies and procedures. Scroll through reviews of Samsara for customer facing roles and you'll see a pattern of mixed reviews. They don't fulfill the promises they make to their employees such as commission relief for 1 time vacation that they sell you on as part of your offer. - A facade of employee care. You're truly just a number. They've got enough $ to throw around for employee events but that doesn't compensate for unnecessarily cutthroat performance policies. Sales targets are no longer being blown out by 300% and the sink or swim mentality from senior sales leadership all the way down to team managers hasn't evolved everyone unnecessarily stressed. -Changing to quarter quotas from monthly quotas isn't throwing your employees a bone, but a natural upmarket evolution for forecasting at a rapid growth company. - Customer churn because of buyers remorse falls on reps as do deliquesces. Clawbacks are common and randomly applied to your sales number. Correspondingly the sales strategy is trial sell and try to close the customer on the first call. If you are apprehensive of over promising or discount selling, this won't be your gig. - Sales enablement is basic. That said, so are Samsara customers for the most part. Prepare to feature and benefits sell to a blown out list of bad data. Most of your customers don't have personal business emails. - This place burns through reps. If you don't gel immediately, you're unwanted. HR is seriously lacking. Under-resourced and not reliable when it comes to relating to employees or providing clarity on very important details such as performance standing.

Pros

dogs everywhere free lunch (served at 11 AM and runs out by 11:10 AM, im not kidding) unlimited PTO

Cons

This environment is not for the weak and honestly, it is not even for the strong. Your first few months at Samsara, you will be a data dog. You get a dump of accounts to work which have been churned and burned by every single rep before you. You are then left to fend for yourself and cold call until your soul dies. You better remember everything you learned at orientation about this complex product because you will literally get zero help figuring it all out as you make it through your first few months here. Either figure it out on your own which is near impossible or annoy your co-workers with questions every couple of minutes in order to make it through your first few demos and conversations. If you survive your first few quarters here - congrats! But now your mental health has probably declined so far that no amount of money could get you to stay. Every rep is so scared to get fired since the environment is so cutthroat. If you miss one quarter? You're gone. If you get lucky enough to make it to the end of a sales cycle with one of your deals, the processes are cumbersome and require so much busywork that you almost want to give up towards the end. It takes about 8 steps internally to get a deal closed and about 5 levels of "leadership approval" for everything you do in salesforce. This delays deals and causes them to die a lot of the time because the process takes too long for your prospect to be happy with. The industry: you are selling to truckers. They are unprofessional, inappropriate and sometimes just downright rude to you. You are just a number to these people and they can care less if you quit or if they fire you. Save yourself the time, career mistake and mental health deterioration and do not come to Samsara for a sales role!!!! Do not listen to the recruiters, they make it sound like everyone is closing deals left and right and it is the easiest job ever. The only reps closing deals are the reps who have been here for 2+ deals and get consistent upsells from current customers. I have never written a company review in my life but feel I was doing Glassdoor a disservice by not writing about my experience.

Pros

Lunch, snacks, you will work alongside top talent and mostly down to earth, hard working people.

Cons

Where to begin.... Sales, especially Commercial Sales, is a sad excuse for a "Sales," team. The Commercial Sales team is simply miserable. Samsara likes to boost that they only hire top talent (1%), yet with the way their CML segment is ran, jr. and green sales reps could be account executives. Management does not like to admit it, but making your monthly quota is 100% based upon a poorly executed round robin system. It is not based upon talent, past experience, or ability. it's LUCK, pure LUCK. Aside from being expected to sit at your desk all day to hopefully get a (good) transfer, you are expected to cold call a minimum of 50 accounts per day. Cold calling in sales, sure, but the accounts we are given to call into are often no longer is business, have incorrect phone numbers, and are missing contacts and/or business information. Our growth team is focused on the quantity of accounts, NOT the quality. This leaves the CML sales team relying on the RANDOM, ROUND ROBIN transfer. You will not grow or sharpen your sales skills with this type of set-up. I encourage you to look elsewhere. CML reps have no faith in their upper management. Promotions and VP/Director placements are based upon politics. If you were previously employed by the CEO's first company, Cisco Meraki, great you're safe, and if not best of luck to you! Samsara hires your replacement BEFORE you even leave. CML reps are fired every week. Even ones who started with the company as an ADR. There is no loyalty or job security. If you want to walk around with your head down everyday hoping that you don't get fired, this is the place for you. *fun fact: you often don't find out what your quota is until the month has already started. for example we found out August's quota on August 8th. How is a sales persons suppose to plan and forecast?
