Inconsistent styles of management demonstrated by the leadership team. Worked for the company for 5 years. Had three different direct managers, worked alongside anywhere from 10-20 assistant store leaders(managers) on a day to day basis, and only one ever asked me where I wanted to go with my career at scheels.
Lots of favoritism, if you're not a favorite, don't expect to be encouraged to go to the next level with the company. Typical corporate politics.
Lots of Nepotism, either assistant store leaders being married to other assistant store leaders, or assistant store leaders married to associates, or assistant store leaders having multiple physical relationships with other associates and assistant store leaders at the same time.

Company does not match 401k because of the ESOP program. You won't start seeing big ESOP gains until you have worked for the company full-time (not part-time) for about 6 years.
Privately owned company, can't buy into their other stock programs unless you are "deemed a worthy employee" and when you are deemed worthy, the price of buying into those stocks based on years of employment and wages is very high.
No vision insurance coverage.

Feels like you're back in high school with the pettiness and the gossip that runs like wildfire throughout the store. This is goes all the way to the top.
Unrealistic store housekeeping expectations and keeping your staff at the store till 10:15, when it's skeleton staffing and the store is doing 1M in sales in a 2 day period on the weekend, for multiple weekends in a row. This contributed to faster burnout and higher turnover.
The rate of hiring did not meet the high turnover rate.
