A growing organization, still a leader in service culture

Pros

A service focused culture that is near impossible to match. Overall a great culture and supportive team throughout divisions. While compensation itself is not the most competitive in the industry, the overall benefits and compensation package is still very strong. The organization continues to grow, creating new career opportunities and ways to help our Members. Work life balance is good for the most part, and there does appear to be a genuine effort to continually make improvements to processes and leadership behaviors in most areas. Our leadership is approachable, but are not seen as often as they used to be. The efforts being made to help our Members, and being able to hear stories of how we have helped them, really continue to inspire us to do more and remember why we choose to be part of this organization.

Cons

Although the organization continues to grow, it still happens at a slower pace than other institutions. When you partner that with the long tenure of many teammembers, it presents challenges for limited opportunities for career growth. At times those selected for promotions seem to be favored to those within a current division or department, even though there are strong or high potential candidates trying to further their careers or expand their field of knowledge. Rules for promotions are enforced when a manager/vice president wants, but those same rules become very flexible when they want to execute their own plans. This inconsistency results in frustrations for many of us who work hard and try to do things the right way, but don't spend an excess time building relationships solely to manipulate what we get out of them. There are pockets as we grow where managers and/or leaders seem to be able to do things their own way, even when they don't represent the culture of the organization, but without apparent repercussions. This causes concern for the future of what currently makes this such a great place to work.
