Pros
Some of the people you work with are smart enough to see what it is really about
Cons
Clique mentality, no room for growth within company, employees are extremely under appreciated, failures are beaten to death and successes are barely recognized, EXTREMELY political culture, if you're not part of the "popular kids" you will not be given a chance to succeed and be promoted within the company. The few executives who are fair and understand the flaws of the company are stomped on by other executives and made to look like a joke. Shawmut does an excellent job at drawing people in with their ESOP program and cute employee perks like 5 Friday's a summer off, but there is little substance behind these and most of the real talent ends up leaving for better companies. They are understaffed, but cheap, so this leads to people working in extremely high stress environments, and sometimes 60 hour work weeks. The old CEO, Tom Goemaat was excellent and really cared about the employees and the new CEO doesn't seem to be the same
