Pros

My immediate bosses are cool. Very easy to talk to. Remote work. They do weekly shoutouts and try coworkers seem genuinely supportive and eager to help each other.

Cons

Not everyone gets the true marketing agency experience of working across teams on different verticals and projects. If you end up working for one of the larger, more difficult clients, you can get drained fairly quickly because of the people and the how-tos. Some clients also don’t have a lot of work so you spend a lot of time across months trying to find something to fill up your time sheet. I’m fairly certain more than 15 people quit in my first 3 months. Due to the silos you might never be privy to all the wonderful things happening inside Trendline. For a company that creates white papers and blogs on email marketing innovation and strategy, I can’t say I see much of either on the client I work with. Our suggestions are often disregarded which makes you second guess why we work for a client who doesn’t let our expertise guide them in any way. Additionally for us to be SMEs the way some incidents were handled was questionable at best. Felt very unorganized and inefficient, and it was drawn out for entirely way too long. There’s a DEI group. With Covid in place I obviously can’t speak on how it worked before but it doesn’t actually seem like they get any real support from majority of the coworkers. Just having a committee and saying we are anti racism isn’t enough.

Started as a friendly startup, ended up a hypocrisy

Pros

-Some opportunities to travel and volunteer. Retirement plan and good bonus potential after 18 months. -Leadership, on good days, SEEMS to want to have friendships with employees and retain everyone. -Some amount of autonomy (which is also a con) and work/life balance. -Open vacation is mostly honored.

Cons

Unethical. Unprofessional. Political & backstabbing. Mediocre compensation. Kool-aid culture. No professional growth. High turnover. Siloed teams. Deceitful leadership. Unstable, even hostile management... Friendly on the surface, but very tense workplace. Leadership team used to say “everyone has a voice here”, but never backed up the work culture they professes to have, and in actuality couldn’t care less about the employees. They hire young and inexperienced people to keep it cheap, and it’s a very “us-versus-them” mentality (VP / director club vs disposable employees). They also don’t believe in hiring a sales team ($), and fail to secure deals, but blame the employees when things go wrong. A few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch at any company, and lack of office-attendance from higher-ups allow these hostile individuals to say and do anything they want... There is no real HR nor office management, and since directors and higher-ups rarely show up to the office, you're on your own to deal with said individuals. Sexist and ageist remarks often encountered. Workplace is often unstable and chaotic if you're on the wrong team (ie not a director or VP working at home). If your job is valued, you may be treated like royalty. If not, you are disposable, and YOU WILL BE TOLD SO and treated so. Work fluctuates from 12-hour days with late night terrors to no workload due to declining business. Agency only does email marketing, which becomes redundant and is often disorganized, despite all the hoops to jump through in the online task management system to get anything done. Time logging system is bad and constantly harped on, with rules constantly changing.

Hi, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback and review. I am really sorry that your experience at Trendline was not what you wanted it to be and it pains me to know that after all this time, you continue to feel this way. I would like to address a few of the comments that you made above that maybe will be able to provide closure or at the very least clarity. 1. We saw the need for a FT individual to handle HR as we grew and since April 2016 , we have had a VP of HR to handle all of the needs for our employees in each office. She has done an incredible job for us and I am honored to work with her. 2. As an agency whose sole focus is email marketing and continues to be, we are always looking for new ways to innovate and put processes in place so that workflow and time management can get better. The online task management system is not a "task management" system. It is a project management system that is able to streamline the workflow for the hundreds and hundreds of projects we have going each and every month. Those that use it effectively see that that their projects run smooth with an accurate paper trail as well as an approval system thus making their work easier. Those that don't, see it as a task based system. 3. Time management/reporting is the key to success for any marketing agency. As you know, we bill our clients based on the hours we work for them so the accurate recording of the hours is essential. We are always training on changes so that everyone is recording the right amount of hours. 4. As a growing agency we pride ourselves on not having a "sales team" to secure business. The "higher ups" are out of the office for a reason which is normally to visit clients or meeting with potential new ones. We have an open calendar system and welcome everyone in the company to see the executives schedules on exactly what we are doing. I could address many other points, but I am not sure it would change how you felt during your time with us. Know this...we take these reviews seriously and as one of the owners of the company, it truly saddens me that someone is out there thinking these thoughts about their past employment with us. I keep in contact with many of our former employees (both voluntary and involuntary) as I truly do care how things shake out after they leave Trendline. That said, I am thankful that you took the time to share your opinion here. I wish you all of the best in the future. Andrew Kordek Co-Founder.
