Pros

The only pros of this company would be the free food.

Cons

Please read this before thinking about applying to this position!! Communication Specialist = X-Team (The hiring team makes it seems otherwise) this should be labeled CALL CENTER OPERATOR. They strictly go for young people who are fresh out of school or desperately need a job. This role is a CALL CENTER. You have two choices. You can work 8 hours, 5 days a week or you can work 10 hours 4 days a week. YOU DO NOT GET WEEKENDS OFF!! I can not stress this enough. You also do not work the same hours each week. You literally will never know when you are off until the week of. You need to show up at least 10 minutes before your shift to set up your computer or you will get a point for being late. There is a point system. If you receive 12 points, you will be fired. 1 point = Clocking in late 2 point = Leaving early / calling in 3 points = No show IF YOU ASK OFF IT WILL BE DENIED! You can ask off months in advanced and it will most likely be denied. I do not recommend this job if you have to visit family over the holidays, have weekend trips planned, etc, They will not work with you ever on scheduling. You will be able to do overtime to get rid of any points, but it is rare that happens. You get zero respect in this position even though you are the glue for the company. Any manager or hire up position will speak to you with a script if you have any question, concern or troubles. Basically, you will do great at this job if you can stay on the phone 10 hours a day and have a very random schedule. Also, there is no raise. $15.00! Also, training is 9 hours a day for a week and VERY VERY HARD since they have no structure.

Pros

Shipt has really good perks including Target 401k, daily dinners, decent equity/ bonus grants, open bar, lots of snacks, and a nice office. People are generally friendly as well.

Cons

Shipt is a joke in its current state and as of earlier 2019. It was fun while it’s lasted. All the good talent has left the company earlier in the year — those that are here still are either looking for a job or can’t find a job because they’re not talented. Everyone is running around like headless chickens at this point. PMs are mostly new (not horrible, but inexperienced and without a leader), engineers are working with what they have but are also limited in skill and their tech stack. The good engineers have also left. Design team is a joke, or at least what’s left of it. Don’t understand how some of these designers are “seniors” or “directors”. It’s all a game of politics now, and kind of always has been.

Pros

-Free snacks, drinks, Friday lunches

Cons

I want to start off by saying I have worked some bad jobs: Fast food, a variety of service industry jobs, retail, office administration, etc. I would like to think I'm someone that has thick skin and works hard. However, this job as a Communications Specialist (X-team) at Shipt was thus far the worst job I have ever worked. If you are thinking of applying, please read and take your time thinking it over. -Leadership Instills False Hope: From the first interview, you will be wooed by the benefits, free snacks and booze, and the young/tech-y fun environment. You will be told that it is so easy to move up in the company, but that is not true. If I could go back in time, I would trade all the "perks" to not have worked this job at all. -Absurd, Belittling, and Offensive Attendance Policy: The other reviews are true: There is an extremely strict (and insane) attendance policy. If you are A FEW SECONDS late to clock in, you receive a point. You're in a car wreck on the way to work? Attendance point. You can't make it to work because you are ill and in the hospital? Attendance point. There is no care or consideration for you as a person or your time. You are part of their customer service machine. -The Job Itself is Absolutely Horrible: The majority of your day involves being yelled at by angry customers and shoppers on the phone. I would sometimes cry before going into my shift because of how high my anxiety was after being yelled out for 8 hours straight every day. It honestly is just a customer service call center job. I witnessed many other employees upset, crying, and overall frustrated with the work every shift. You are a punching bag all day. - Scheduling: You could work anywhere from 6am to midnight any day of the week (unless you chose to work overnights). PTO sounds nice, but good luck actually getting any of your requested time off. -Cliquey environment: There are some nice people here, but at times it felt very high school--gossip, closed friend groups, and leadership spoke openly about their favorites. It's easy to feel left out or forgotten. I stayed in this position longer than I should have because I kept hoping that I would be promoted. The "promotions" are lateral and do not come often. Typically, they already have people picked out for the position. I could go on and on, but these are some main points. I honestly do not like thinking back on this job, however, I wanted to write this as a warning to future applicants. If this can save you some exhaustion, anxiety, and from a bad job--it was worth the write. If you do not mind call centers or truly enjoy customer service jobs, this may be a good fit for you. But if you have other opportunities, please look into those before this one.
