Pros

- Interesting challenges to work on - Smart co-workers - Free lunch and dinner, free snacks and drinks

Cons

- Company growth has stagnated during past few years - Management and communication from the top is mediocre at best and at times incredibly poor - Co-CEOs often put delusional spin on lackluster results, coming off as desperate - Atmosphere is depressing - Plenty of places other than MemSQL where you can work on equally interesting challenges for better pay without all the downsides

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. We take all feedback from both current and former employees very seriously. We’re sorry to hear that your time with MemSQL did not meet your expectations. While I can’t speak for all the personal and professional growth of all our employees, I can refer you to this very timely article related to our recent fundraise (link pasted below). The article specifically references the very strong growth we’ve demonstrated over the past few years that allowed us to raise this money, as well as our unique positioning in the market, which we believe will enable us to continue being successful going forward. In regards to our communication, we are always trying to improve and we believe we’ve made great strides in recent months. We recently, this month, started a program to increase communications between HR and our people managers to ensure that our employees remain connected, wherever they are in the world. As I said above, we value all feedback from both current and former employees and encourage you to reach out to our HR team with any other feedback you may have that you didn’t get to share during your exit interview. https://techcrunch.com/2020/05/11/memsql-raises-50m-in-debt-facility-for-its-real-time-database-platform/

Pros

Benefits are decent for a 10 year old "start up"

Cons

Overall MemSQL is a false promise type of workplace, I'd avoid at all costs. From the new Co-CEO, to shakeups in leadership which lead to regular individual contributors getting the ax, or choosing to bail for better more stable opportunities. This place seems like a good idea at first , from the convincing tenured recruiter to the seamless interview process, but once you start, and work and understand the mechanics, regret of joining this place ensues. - Poor company culture, fragmented and unexcited IT, HR and click-y teams. - The company's missions/ values are all lies, you will get targeted if you question the CEO's ideas, though bad. - The bureaucratic nightmare of trying to collaborate with other teams is everywhere. My own manager didn't support it. - Management lies, they don't have your back. Many work for self-gain and steal your own work as if it's their own. - Company is outsourcing more, moving jobs out the US, and seeking to undermine senior members of the company (from their skills and contributions) for cheaper labor. -Core product is buggy, lots of issues and has a long way to go before can be taken seriously IMO.

Thank you for providing your feedback on your experience working at MemSQL. We strive for a positive employee experience and we’re sorry to hear that yours has not been so far. We take all employee feedback very seriously, and as a current employee, we encourage you to speak confidentially with your manager or our HR team. We have a strict non-retaliation policy, as well as an open-door policy so that we’re able to ensure all employee feedback and concerns are addressed confidentially. If, in your eyes, we aren’t living up to our values, I welcome the conversation about how to improve this for you and our colleagues. Regarding our product, I’ve been here long enough to see a pretty spectacular evolution from early production implementations to the incredibly reliable MemSQL 7.0 release. As an employee on the sales team, you likely know that we sometimes get into situations where our product isn’t the best fit for the use case at hand. While we don’t intend to be a database for all use cases, we are confident that we have a great product and, as you know, have received many positive customer testimonials that we feel demonstrate the effectiveness of our product.

Pros

Nice people, nice pay, and a decent amount of communication from CEO. They think they're going to get an IPO.

Cons

People are leaving the company in droves. Especially in Marketing! Look at the employees on LinkedIn and you will see a huge decline in folks over the last few months. Don't take a job here, I worked 12+ hours a day because Marketing had me in meetings almost all day long and I had to find time to do real work. I knew it would be impossible to ever take a vacation (and with covid restrictions lifting, I wanted to take one!) Management not having any direction from the executives created a lot of changing priorities. This leaves you not knowing what priorities you should be working on. It made my head spin and gave me horrible anxiety. This company doesn't have a defined mission statement, business objectives, or goals. Goals are powerful—they need to set some to help employees focus attention on achieving desirable outcomes. They need to set business goals to provide the company direction and help provide motivation. It's business 101. Specific, measurable, achievable, and timely goals... without those, employees will suffer. Of course, unless you are a part of the good ol' boys club that other reviews have mentioned.
