Pros

- Very impressed with recruiting and interview process; experienced best communication during interview process compared to any other company I've pursued in past - Really great benefits and comp (now have a 401k match that other reviewers mentioned was missing) - Helpful onboarding materials, product training - Very welcoming colleagues excited to help me succeed and get to know me as a person - Open to input on processes that need fixing or improved; early indication of growth mindset is encouraging - Supportive of flexible, hybrid work post-pandemic

Cons

- Rapid growth, hiring means many co-workers are also new and learning - PTO is below industry standards (but have heard it's being evaluated with improvements coming) - Too many tech tools for efficient workflow (Slack, G Chat, Google Meet, Zoom, Workplace by Facebook, Smartsheet...)

Pros

Great benefits and good coworkers

Cons

No POC in leadership, no opportunity for promotions or growth. No assistance from management. Forced OT pushed on employees every week. Pay isn’t great.

Gaslight You? Can Do!

Pros

The people at IC level are fantastic humans who get run to the ground by poor leadership.

Cons

Leadership. Atrocious management and complete lack of care for employees who are not white. Systemic racism runs rampant and has not been actually addressed or dealt with since it’s visible at the top levels of leadership. Unless you are willing to play by the status quo and be a “yes person” you will be treated poorly and gaslit into thinking that you are the problem when in fact it’s the other way around. Every earnest desire to change things for the better is met with excuses and roadblocks to change because those in power do not want to give up their power over people. If you are a minority you will be tokenized, chewed up, and spit out once they’re done parading you as a company that cares about DEI. They will plaster your face on the website and pay people of color to come to Engage since there’s no senior leadership that isn’t white or a decent human. It is not surprising that the DEI director left before one year as they were never given a team or full support to bring about the changes needed. The largest attrition of the company are those in minority groups - people are leaving in droves because of the mistreatment and lack of care. Career growth? Only if you somehow are lucky to have a manager that cares about you or you’re a favorite of those in power - otherwise you somehow never end up being qualified enough for a role you’re over qualified for. The toxicity is in every department. Your mental health will suffer dramatically. Do not work here.

Smartsheet Response

I’m dismayed to read about your negative experience at Smartsheet, and I encourage all employees to raise any concerns with their People Business Partner. While I will be the first to acknowledge that we’re on a journey when it comes to our DEI efforts, I can assure you that tokenization is in no way an acceptable part of that journey, and in fact it is something we proactively address with our leaders to ensure that it does not happen. We’re focused on five key areas to guide our progress in this space: accountability, engagement, awareness, process evolution, and change management and communications. We also know there’s no “done” when it comes to DEI. This is ongoing and important work—and I’m confident we’ll be in a better position a year from now than we are today as we continue to expand our DEI team. We’re also focusing energy on improving our career progression programs. We’ve recently updated our promotion process, and soon we’ll be launching an internal job board and updated employee and leader competencies, all of which will provide additional structure and guidance for employees and managers as they navigate their career growth and development. —Megan Hansen, Chief People and Culture Officer
