Pros
- A startup with balance: While too many startups burn their employees out with 60+ hour weeks, difficulty getting PTO approved, and a culture of "work harder", Sofar and management really value time off. Yes, it's important that you get your work done, but you don't necessarily need to stay til 8pm in the office to do it.
-Beautiful office: The office isn't just awesome on the inside but it's right on the water in SF. The free lunches don't hurt either!
-Ownership of your work: There isn't time for micromanagement and it's expected that people will take care of what's in front of them. For some people this can be tough but when you are honest in your application and interviews it makes for a great place to grow and challenge yourself.
-Ocean nerds!!!! If working around ocean science and weather models isn't already cool enough, then the Slack channel will keep you excited. Whether it's a discovery of new deep sea creatures, a trip to the beach, or an article on something happening in the ocean space, there is so much to learn about our biggest climate change ally (the ocean) and it's encouraged!
Cons
-Climate change isn't slowing down and so there's a lot to do
-If you need hand-holding then this likely isn't the right place
-If you are in it for the money then working at big tech is probably a better place to stay (Sofar is still gonna be big btw)
