Pros

Good benefits- mental health care copays totally covered. Decent equity if you are hired as a manager or above and stay for a year. Really smart and dedicated co-workers

Cons

Senior leadership preaches a lot about mental health and work-life balance and how valuable it is for clients, but doesn't actually support that for full-time staff in practice. Lots of hustle culture mentality and often times little direction or established process from senior leaders. Senior leaders can be cutthroat in their mentality about performance. You will almost definitely work more than 40 hours if you want to be successful. They preach a lot about "bucket worthiness" which basically means fill a hole if you see it, which glorifies people doing work outside of their assigned role and paygrade, and honestly it doesn't really happen in practice anyway- balls get dropped all the time because there is not a lot of clarity about role and team differentiation/ownership of projects and processes. They acquired a new company and then 2~months later laid off 15% of their staff-poor planning on senior leaders' part.

Have been nothing but impressed with the onboarding and my short-time at Sondermind so far. Great mission, work-life balance and great people -- Highly recommend.

Pros

Great product and mission that impacts the world for the better. Working on our product is knowing you are making a difference everyday. Truly great people at the IC level, cream of the crop talent that is full of self-driven engineers + designers who are always looking to improve and support those around them.

Cons

Paltry recognition of contributions, below-average pay raises, chaotic performance review processes (there has not been a standard process here in my over 2 years of being here), and the constant hypocrisy of being a “career defining place to work” while simultaneously providing no internal growth opportunities within the engineering org. Many folks at the IC level in engineering + product are overworked and are being asked to wear multiple hats that often have conflicting interests, while simultaneously being held to unknown metrics with no clear indication of exactly how performing to standards will benefit their career. CTO does not trust internal talent (they are also the CPO, I should add): Multiple senior SonderMind engineering + product folk have departed the company in the past few months, losing YEARS of vital product + codebase context, with many of those departures being due to promotion rejections at the CTO level (approved at all other levels). Further, the engineering org has no plan to better support teams due to the recessionary environment (despite saying it’s a buyers market), promote internally, or open up new positions to support teams that are stretched too thin. In the current environment, becoming an engineer at SonderMind is a dead-end job.
