Pros

There were some cool "perks" like food, drinks and events. You at least got a paycheck.

Cons

This place seems to believe in the value of constantly firing people. I haven't worked there for a few months, but I am seeing former coworkers constantly looking for new jobs and seeing that they were involuntarily let go. Being there was stressful, the days with mass firings, or just the day to day of hearing who else was let go, it was hard to even focus on your job without being worried. It became a fend for yourself environment, which made it hard to bond with coworkers because people were always stressed. Some managers were great, but others were terrible. It wasn't uncommon for you to be made to feel inadequate. You could be doing everything well and be praised for it, then just sudden change of heart and being told you weren't capable of doing your job. I had known several people being "let go" after no negative feedback, just someone changing their mind. It seemed that some of the managers were able to feel better about themselves by putting employees down - all around not ideal environment. The pay was way below average - if they spent less money on the "perks" like ping pong tables and snacks and more in investing in their employees, the morale would be greatly improved. I don't know anybody that would prefer having a cooler of drinks over a decent paycheck.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you had such a terrible experience. Our goal as an organization is to create a challenging and rewarding environment where all employees have the opportunity to contribute, develop, and grow. In our annual employee survey, employees told us that encouraging new ideas was a strength for Sovos. But, it sounds like you didn’t experience that in your role, and we don’t take that lightly. I’m particularly concerned about the perception that we make a practice of letting people go. While we’ve never done a mass layoff as you describe, there were structural changes required to integrate the businesses we brought together into one global team, and unfortunately those changes did come with some position eliminations over the past couple years. The truth is, we’ve actually grown significantly in that time, ballooning from less than 500 people to more than 1,000 worldwide. And, our business depends on our ability to find, retain and grow talented people in every department. We appreciate the acknowledgement of our great managers. We invest heavily in hiring talented managers and arming them with the training and tools they need to thrive. Last year, 80% of employees felt their manager made it easier to do their job well. But we strive to do even better. We have worked hard in implementing additional training resources to help our managers grow and improve the overall employee experience. We take every review seriously, and we will take all your feedback back to our leaders for discussion. We are working every day to be better than the next, and we appreciate your direct feedback. We wish you luck in your next opportunity.

We have built a culture that encourages employees to take action and make an impact, and we count on our management team and our compensation package to reward people who contribute to the success of the team. We are sorry to hear you felt undervalued and underappreciated and will look for ways to continue to address these comments.

Pros

Lots of opportunity to take on some serious challenges and pursue things well beyond what you might get to do elsewhere. There are also some really smart, passionate, and committed people in the organization, and many people are sincerely trying to do the right thing. While there remains a lot of room for improvement, things are getting better.

Cons

There are a lot of broken promises, commitments, and neglected relationships going back to when the organization was in ADP. In some cases those issues are continuing to this day. Consequently, you may find yourself picking up a lot of messes created by those before you. The organization tries to be focused on high performance, but that frequently results in people being summarily removed, rather than a place where people get regular feedback and feel safe to take risks. Organizational politics can become pretty bad as well, especially across departments.
