Cutthroat, unstable, avoid this place

Pros

-Lots of good people in the MN office, a few scattered at other locations -Experience working in an extremely fast paced environment -Ability to learn a variety of job functions (since it is likely you will have to cover 2-3 separate roles) -Good job if you are looking for customer service/seasonal work -When you leave and work at a better company it will seem easy because of everything you went through at Sovos

Cons

-They value hiring "cheap" inexperienced workers with some potential over an experienced professional -Zero work life balance, especially during tax season. Expect to be called, emailed, and involved in resolving issues at all hours of the day and night, weekends, holidays, etc. It doesn't matter--you are on call regardless of your job function -Extremely unstable systems--infrastructure and software--too much change -People are leaving here in masses--both voluntarily and through layoffs -Note--I am fairly certain all of the recent positive reviews on here for Sovos are fake and written by HR recruiting

Pros

+As mentioned in numerous reviews, it's all about your co-workers. The people you meet (in your level - this does not include management, as that's a big problem) are some of the best. I stay in touch with many of them on a regular basis. +For sales, the pay is manageable. If you can handle the stresses of whale hunting, you should be able to get by. The base is well below average, but the commission somewhat makes up for it. If you want a shot at more consistent income, apply to the Wilmington/Boston office. That business line has a product that is more self-sustaining and has fewer major competitors.

Cons

-The target bookings are unrealistic and, frankly, unobtainable. Management projected a forecast based on a brand new market, and they were off. By a lot. Rather than admit they were wrong and adjust accordingly, they stood by their projections. As a result, quotas are through the roof. Don't expect to last a year when the market has already solidified itself and there are competitors everywhere. Oh, and rather than admitting they screwed up the projections, they doubled down by cancelling the bi-annual sales event. Rather than a lavish event that truly makes employees feel appreciated (at least I did), they blame the lack of bookings and use it as a reason to completely cancel the event (even though we all know it's a financial issue). Now, employees will be lucky to be able to expense a dinner bill, rather than a fun, productive outing with all the sales teams. -Hinted above, this sales department has the highest turnover I've ever seen. If you don't get up to speed quickly enough, you're out. Don't expect superfluous amounts of help from your managers. If the aforementioned managers don't like you, you're out. All of the talented, incumbent visionaries who created Sovos through the merger are already gone. Everyone remaining is all about bureaucracy. -Sovos preaches itself as the land of opportunity, even if you aren't happy with your department. The implication is that, once you are hired (i.e. passing the SAT-style "exam"), you are seen as an asset to the company. We are told that, if you want to explore other roles within the company, you are free to do so. Well, it's all a lie. I was becoming uneasy in the sales department, and wanted to explore the product line and the operations department. That never happened. My manager would not sign off on a rotation schedule, as it would detract from the hours I spend in my actual role. A valid counterpoint, I will grant, but why bother dangling this fake program in front of potential/current employees when it's never going to happen? -IT for the Minnesota office is down to one person. Marketing is nonexistent, save for the client-based webinars full of information regurgitation. Human Resources is unresponsive and, frankly, inappropriate. If you ask a question about resigning, pursuing new roles, or anything, you can expect that it will circulate within the department, through the building, and eventually make its way back to bite you in the rear (a.k.a, the exact opposite of what HR is supposed to be there for). -I gave the rating two stars, but the truth is, it's one star. People tend to write off the one-star reviews as shallow-minded individuals who want to vent because they got fired. Believe me here, I did not get fired. I left when it became clear that Sovos was slipping and didn't care about its employees.

Thank you for your sincere feedback, we agree Sovos has incredible talent within our team working on behalf of our Clients. We recently announced changes in Sales to address some of your concerns head on and we believe these changes will continue to have a positive impact on our success through the reminder of our fiscal year. We took time to weigh all the data carefully to ensure we were making a fair decision for all employees and the business. We’re known in the market for our ability to react nimbly to market needs, but we also strive to maintain structure and continuity for our employees, particularly around compensation. This past November, 40% of our quota carrying sales employees not only exceeded their quota but achieved President’s Club targets and took a trip to Costa Rica to celebrate. We believe in rewarding top talent for their accomplishments! In addition, we’re sorry to hear you didn’t feel you had the opportunity to explore other career paths. Career advancement and discovery is important to us and something our employees value highly. We’ll review your comments with our management team to make sure we’re meeting our high expectations. We support career growth, and the number of promotions and job moves last year outpaced market benchmarks. We’re very proud of our CLOUD rotation program, which provided 50+ employees the opportunity to pursue interests outside of their departments in 2016. While we strive to make this opportunity available to all interested employees, eligibility does depend upon workload and is subject to departmental needs. We believe Sovos is a great place to work, and will continue to work hard to improve in all areas. Thank you again for your review and we wish you the best of luck in your new adventure!

Mixed bag that isn't worth the gamble

Pros

Many nice people work here, and some days that's enough to help you get through the slog. There are also some branches of some teams that are well-run and have happy employees, but that is the exception here. Potential for quick career advancement in some cases, but it's based on luck more than anything else (usually when other people quit and they need to fill gaps ASAP).

Cons

Low pay, bare-bones benefits, and long hours. Constant turnover in a lot of departments can make it hard to get your job done (especially when you're not notified of departures) or leave you with extra work. The company's overall focus is constantly shifting, so you never know when you're going to be told to scrap everything you'd been working on and start from scratch. Lack of communication between teams (and sometimes within teams) makes everything way more complicated than it needs to be.

First, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We are sorry to hear that your experience working at Sovos did not match our goal to foster a rewarding and purpose-driven environment. We have taken your feedback into consideration to make sure we address the areas where we did not provide a great experience for you, but would like to respond to a few of your specific concerns. Businesses around the world are challenged to keep up with the pace, volume, and complexity of compliance requirements. Over 4,500 clients in 120 countries around the globe (including half of the Fortune 500) count on Sovos to stay ahead of complex and fast-evolving government regulations. Sovos employees view the excitement of working in a dynamic, emerging market as a positive aspect of their experience, but we acknowledge the quick pace and constant change is not right for everyone. In the past twelve months, nearly one-third of Sovos’ 600 employees achieved career growth in the form of promotions or new roles, based on the merit of their contributions. We believe high performers want to work in a culture that rewards individual impact – which is likely why we retained over 90% of our top talent this past year. As you alluded to, the talented and passionate people who work at Sovos are what make it such a great place to work. We don’t take it lightly that we employ the best people on earth, which is why in the past year we have done thorough compensation reviews at all of our sites, implemented a generous corporate bonus plan, and bolstered our benefits program, which today includes comprehensive health insurance, a 401(k) with company matching, and tuition reimbursement, among other offerings. Thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.
