Pros

The sports basement is a great store, with great values. The benefits, which include various trips and an employee discount, are great. In addition, the atmosphere and people are very fun.

Cons

The pay sucks. I was told that a raise after your first month on the job was common, but nobody I talked to while working there had gotten one. Not only that, but the supposed raise only occurs after you get your first review, which doesn't always come after one month. Most managers are great, but some can be very unreliable, as well.

Great company, growing fast

Pros

The company is built on great values: genuine love for the outdoors, funky and fun vibe, using recycled stuff to turn cool spaces into great shopping experiences. Some really great people working there. Free food, great discount, and opportunities to go out and play outdoors (sponsored by company). Solid benefits for full-timers.

Cons

They are growing super fast and trying to do a lot at the same time. Seems like they have growing pains some times and things don't run as smoothly as they could. I respect companies that try to run lean, but it always seems like a few more people would help a lot (for both customers and staff). Difficult to advance. Compensation not great.

Pros

SB is all about a healthy life/work balance. I was always able to work my schedule around my sports and school schedule. The people who work there are amazing, the culture is unbeatable! They take such good care of their employees and the discount is a huge perk! I loved working for SB for over 3 years, I wish I was still living in the bay area working at Sports Basement!

Cons

Although the sports basement crew is great, customers can always be a pain, but that is retail, and there is no way around bad customers.
