Pros

Decent work/life balance as far as not having to work weekends, late nights. Able to take laptop home to do overtime if you choose. The company tries to make it's employees comfortable. At it's heart, its a good company.

Cons

Salary is very low compared to other Underwriting positions in the same market. First line leaders can make or break your happiness here. They brag on their benefits, but a lot of it just looks good on paper. For example, my team has been with the company 2 years now. On paper, we have FORTY sick days a year. Yes, forty. But, if you take more than 3-4 a year, you better believe you will get written up (aka a drop file). With children in daycare, sometimes that is not realistic. Also, the lack of flex time in many departments in a city like Atlanta is making me consider looking for other options. I live what is supposed to be 25 minutes away. In the morning, it's takes me over an hour and a half to get here because I cannot drop my daughter off at daycare any earlier than 6:30. Some days are ok. If schools are out, I get here around 7:30. Even before. But many days, esp if it rains I push 8am or even 8:15. This is something us employees cannot help. We have no control over Atlanta traffic. And many of us do not live within where public transportation here reaches. In a city with traffic problems like Atlanta, you need to allow your workers flex time or at least not get them in trouble for something they have NO control over. Many managers show obvious favoritism. Its very hard to move up. They hire SO many new hires that the competition is impossible unless an upper manager really likes you.

Cons

Overworked, required overtime, too many drastic changes, employee moral is going to the pot, upper management doesn't really take employee engagement seriously they go through the required motions.

Pros

Income, Benefits, Pension, Vacation.

Cons

Many years of transitions, major company changes and reorganizations has resulted in a disengaged and burned out workforce suffering under high work loads, stressful work environments, inadequate staffing, loss of veteran expertise, reduced benefits, reduced salary ranges, and generally feeling under valued and unappreciated. Change is necessary to maintain our edge in this rapidly changing industry, but in the drive for change consideration of employees seems incidental.
