Pros

For a fully remote company with employees all over the world, Stem strives to be a warm and welcoming place for everyone. We've experienced a lot of growth in 2022 and though change inevitably comes with growing pains, I feel that everyone I work with has the best intentions and we have a culture that values a learning mindset. Regular retros, all-hands, 1:1s, design reviews, quarterly goal setting, etc. help drive team alignment and I think that's key for any company, but especially a startup of Stem's size. The leadership at Stem is transparent about our mission and priorities, and I have a clear idea of how I directly impact our path to success. I've had the opportunity to design a ton of new features and 2 brand new products from scratch -- I don't take that learning opportunity for granted. I've always felt like I have the autonomy and trust to do what's right for myself and my team, and I feel supported along the way. Questions are always encouraged. Most importantly, Stem is striving to solve an undeniable problem in the music industry and everyone at Stem cares -- that's evident in the work ethic and grit that I see from my peers day by day. You can't beat working in music. Our users are amazing, the complexities are fascinating, and you are never bored. It's a fun place to roll up your sleeves, get exposed to all areas of the business, experiment and learn quick.

Cons

This is not a workplace where you can put on your blinders and just do what you're told. You have to pay attention, stay engaged, and think critically because it's a fast-paced environment and it could be easy to feel out of the loop. There's a lot of work to do, so you have to be comfortable upholding life/work balance. The folks at Stem respect boundaries, but it's a slippery slope if you aren't used to maintaining that for yourself. There isn't a dedicated design team (yet), so I've had to look outside of Stem for mentorship and learning within my craft and discipline. Not necessarily a "con", but just something to consider.

Pros

Stem is a blend of music industry experts and techies alike. Despite our wide array of backgrounds, there is an inclusive culture where all thoughts are respected. On a daily basis you can feel that everyone is bringing their full heart to supporting our mission of bringing clarity to the music industry and thinking of the customer's challenges first. We all feel and know that our individual work is incredibly meaningful and contributing to something greater than ourselves. Along with this, I sincerely can say I enjoy coming to work Monday through Friday because it's such an upbeat culture (who doesn't love working with positive coworkers?) I'm excited to see what the impact Stem will continue to have on the music industry in the coming years and what we're going to achieve together.

Cons

None. It's a healthy culture. The people ops team ensures everyone is heard and supported so we can put in our best work daily. They are world class and truly the backbone of driving such an inclusive culture.

Pros

I remember interviewing for Stem and reading and wondering about some of these older reviews - It's been a year now and frankly I haven't seen any evidence of the callouts. I don't normally write reviews, but thought I'd give a more fresh and current employee perspective for whoever is reading everything. - The culture is the best I've experienced from any job position. -Our CEO is intentional, accessible and inspiring in how she seeks members of the team to know her and to know each other -Our tech and our service is gaining momentum in disrupting market standards in an industry craving this, which has been exciting and motivational to witness and participate in this past year -Collaboration, innovation, and good work is well celebrated and naturally encouraged -company culture and bonding feels natural and is prioritized even in our remote setting (sometimes we'll gather together throughout the year too) -There aren't departmental silos- I felt comfortable, even within a short time reaching out to others for project insight and just honest curiosity - HR is super attentive and in tune to the needs of employees and is intent on making our experiences with our culture fun, meaningful, and conducive to an environment where we can feel comfortable expressing our personalities, feel known in the organization, and are in the headspace to work at our best.. - I don't feel alienated because of my race or age or because I'm not in one of major hub cities my coworkers are in

Cons

Not trying to be cheesy here, but I honestly don't have any. I've worked at 3 or 4 startups of various sizes and this one gets a lot of things right. Honestly genuinely happy here. I think the reason I don't have any cons to air is because the leadership team often jumps at every opportunity to improve culture, team dynamics, and company vision/trajectory, and as employees we're encouraged to drive those conversations, more so than I've seen elsewhere. I think the usual trap growing startups fall into is expanding rapidly in numbers and breadth of focus and losing the desire or energy to maintaining quality employee experience - this hasn't happened this last year at Stem...
