Pros

-Flexible hours -Experience in styling different body types, ages, and lifestyles -Discount on personal Fixes

Cons

Look, I get that Stitch Fix is a business first and foremost; they are concerned with making money and appeasing their board of directors. I understand why some items are featured weeks before they’re actually available in limited stock. That’s how you drive the clients to keep their subscription, it’s a classic retail tactic, so I have no qualms with that aspect of the job either. Still: -Each week clients complain about the quality and variety of the clothes that are being sent to them. I get it, I’d love to have more to choose from than overpriced polyester tab-sleeved blouses. -The job is draining, and after a while you realize you aren’t being paid enough for the time and effort you’re expected to put into it. It's really not a mystery why stylists burn out all the time. -As others have mentioned, you are only your metrics. It doesn’t matter if you want to put a lot of effort and thought into the Fixes, or if inventory was low again and we’re asked to get “creative” with the little items that are available (usually navy and out-of-season). You’re expected to do four Fixes an hour and keep your rates up or you’ll be hearing from your lead stylist (which is the only time you do ever hear from her). -Lead stylists are more concerned with their bottom line and each oversee too many stylists in their teams to keep on top of what you’re doing right in addition to what you’re doing wrong. I have had two lead stylists and I’m pretty sure they’re given a script of what to say because they all use the same insincere, faux-positive language. Also, forget about trying to talk to them about the concerns I listed above or trying to come up with solutions; if you're not besties they don't want to hear from you more than they have to. I'm not trying to sound bitter. Really, I'm not! I LOVED stitch fix when I first started, it was very exciting and the future looked positive. But the culture of the company took a weird turn, and a lot of the talented, wonderful people I've met have all left with a bad taste it their mouth. I was very reluctant to post a review; current employees talk about the reviews on this site and like to think the negative ones are written by bitter ex-employees who were looked over for a promotion or didn't feel popular enough at HQ. But I think that sentiment speaks volumes on it's own...

Monotonous and no room for growth

Pros

Medical benefits (only available for full-time)

Cons

-VERY monotonous, especially because inventory is stale. You will send the same pieces just in different colors year after year. -Inventory is a huge issue (even before COVID and supply chain issues which have only made it worse). You will go weeks without pants or tops and are told to just "get creative" or "lean into the algorithm" -There is no room for growth or mobility. -Pay is not enough for the impact and workload Stylists have -Leads (what SF calls their managers) provide no positive impact to the stylist role. They are basically glorified babysitters to timesheets. Unless weekly emails with photos of what they did with their unlimited PTO while you struggled to put together Fixes with no pants and only pajamas populating is considered impactful. -Constant technology issues that you are asked to work around even though you have to schedule yourself down to the very minute and this slow down will impact your metrics, which you will then be reprimanded for even though you had no control over the issue. -Culture of silence. They have taken away pretty much any platform or Stylists to communicate. If you utter even a hint of a problem or negativity around not having inventory you will get a meeting with your Lead and Supervisor to discuss how you are not upholding the Stitch Fix OS. -The ads market pieces that we buy in very low quantities or at a high price range and are NOT a true reflection of inventory which is misleading clients and puts a huge strain on the Stylist because we can't deliver their requests.

Demeaning, inflexible, unsustainable

Pros

Up until summer 2021, I really loved this job. It was fun, creatively fulfilling, and the flexibility was amazing for me as a college student. Unfortunately, none of this applies anymore.

Cons

- The process of styling, post-August 2021, was tedious, joyless, and miserable. Our job became, essentially, fixing the mistakes of a really dumb algorithm. - The efficiency quota was already tight, but with the implementation of a “points” system for efficiency, we were slyly made to work even more quickly than before, to the point of infeasibility. I remember hearing from a stylist who styled almost 300 Fixes in a week and still did not meet her points goal. - Part-time Stylists were treated as if we were stupid. There were massive changes made to the styling process (automated Fix Preview Step 1s) that were incredibly obvious to Stylists and significantly impacted our work, but when we asked our leads about the change, they ignored it, only to finally announce the changes WEEKS later and pretend they had only just been implemented. - The company culture is dishonest, isolating, and passive-aggressive. When I started, there was an internal forum where Stylists could communicate with one another, but they later took it down. It was often said that feedback from Stylists was encouraged, but in practice, Stylists offering constructive feedback were reprimanded and accused of not having “grit.”
