Pros

The energy behind the service we provide and the discount on the glasses. Our teams are always the best of the best with great personalities so it keeps the stores diverse. The company lends many tools found via apps on the iPad at the hands of any associate. The training content is also great for a first time manager.

Cons

Biggest challenge is competitive pay. In terms of the rest of the industry his company falls very behind in hourly wages. They used to offer better bonuses and commissions for leadership, but that has subsided. As a manager you are consistently asked to take initiative and step outside of your job title and are not compensated for it. This company is the best at dangling that unachievable carrot, and sucking the life force out of its best employees.

NYC SGH STAY FAR AWAY!

Pros

Free certificate for $500 every year you work. (I was a 4 year employee) You meet some very cool hard working under appreciated people. OK job for while your in high school or college, DO NOT EXPECT A CAREER FROM HERE LIKE I DID.

Cons

YOU ARE NOT SAFE. Working in a Manhattan store on single coverage I was constantly threatened by thieves while trying to manage a store with no manager and handle customers. Some of my associates were threatened by knife, we had the highest shrink in the region. Company would blame us for not "stopping" the thieves and ask "what could you have done differently." I stopped calling the pathetic excuse for asset manager Baker and just went straight to the NYPD who had me close the store early multiple times and told me it was very unsafe to be in the store alone. NO ROOM FOR GROWTH, I was very successful with SGH for the past 4 years and when I graduated college I dreamed of having my own store. I was not offered anything, when trying to transfer back to the store I started in at the age of 18 which was close to home upper management began to ruin my reputation and lie, when I never had the opportunity to talk to them. EVER. (Only came in to leave expensive shopping bags in the store to continue shopping with friends, grab lunch, etc.) The old manager in my store was stealing along with 2 employees he had hired and when they were fired, I had the most experience and was left to fend for myself and the store. Was not appreciated for it, my raises decreased year to year from .25, .19, .15, .12 YES THATS CENTS. And my transfer was denied along with another one of my co workers when we were both top of sales for the company. my old RM Nick (who I had a great relationship with and knew I was a hard worker) would not even reach out to me to help with the transfer, never responded to calls or messages. He just believed whatever lies were told to him and I'm assuming thought that I had something to do with the down fall of the store, when in reality Luxottica transferred me to Bloomies for 7 months. then put me back into a store riddled with theft internal and external. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE MORE THEN MINIMUM WAGE KEEP LOOKING, there is no commission, don't let them fool you. They base the commission structure on the best year the company had which is literally impossible to make.

Pros

An opportunity to work around some amazing brands. Free pair of sunglasses up to $500 after your first year. Every now and then you get 50% off.

Cons

Standing for long periods of time. Management does not understand that you can't sell to every customer or that you can't catch every thief. The only person who really gets hours is the store manager, which makes it even harder to make goal. You only get commission when the entire store makes goal regardless if you met your personal goal or not. Commission dropped down to just 1% so there is no motivation to make goal because you have to sell $1000 just to see a measly $10. Raises come once a year and they are nothing to look forward to. My first raise was just 19 cents.
