Pros

Flexible schedule, part-time work with decent pay (9.50/hr + commission) gives time to persue school or whatever. SGH in a Macy's has a good atmosphere, it's nice and open, and had cameras and security guards to prevent thefts.

Cons

You only get commission if the entire store reaches goal for the week. You only get hours if you make your goals. Have 1 off week and you'll get scheduled 8 hours/week. Management plays favorites. One person works the store at a time, so you can't ever call off, and you're not allowed breaks in case of theft, and there's a lot of thieves.

Pros

Innovative training programs, great product, fun environment to work in, perfect if you like to interact with customers, good benefits, charity opportunities, cool contests

Cons

Asks for more skills & investment than they're willing to pay for, very low pay compared to other companies in the same industry, benefits are expensive to employee, job satisfaction depends entirely on manager, HR doesn't protect employee rights

Pros

Lots of training and support for your knowledgebase, great benefits (I got $500/year at any Luxottica brand company for a pair of glasses, whether sun, prescription, or both), awesome discounts, lots of self guided learning and running the store. There is some oversight but there was no micromanagement. Although you only get commission or bonuses if you make sales goals, you are not punished with fewer hours for not making them. I liked the check out system; it made sense and the management of receipts and deposit was simple.

Cons

You are PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for shrink at your store. I worked in a single coverage store (ie, there was never more than one person working at any given time) with a door on one side and a door on the other side. If you weren't hawk-watching the whole store during busy times, someone could walk in, walk across the floor, snatch something and walk out without your noticing. You were held responsible for the loss of those items, even though you had to follow strict protocol regarding if someone stole something. I once had two fairly large families come through in an organized sting on the store; one family distracted me in a way that I could not avoid without giving poor customer service, and the other family stole $2,000 worth of glasses. I was required to first call the DM to get permission to call the police, and I was not allowed to close the store to handle the situation (or the fact that I was completely shaken up.) We were also encouraged to never use the bathroom, because it required we close the store for the 35 seconds (or however long) it took. You have to count every single sunglass in the store in the morning and in the evening, even if zero people come through the door. But you're not allowed to be involved in counting when customers are inside. Additionally, I was reprimanded once because I took an hour to do the count when I kept coming up with wrong numbers, even though I was told I was not allowed to leave unless every pair of glasses was accounted for.
