Pros

- Great benefits - Fantastic business idea and business prospects - Lots of great people there - Good cultural events - fun things like bowling, drinks, etc - Flexibility about working from home

Cons

- Nepotism - people who get promoted at Takeoff almost always have a direct connection to someone high up, often without appropriate demonstrated experience. Alternatively, positions are filled externally by hiring within leadership's network. - Minimal or no career coaching or opportunities for promotion, raises, and advancement. Promising things to candidates in interviews that they later may not honor. - Teams/individuals are rarely directly involved in decisions that affect them, including team changes/hiring or process changes. - Culture of working excessively at a frenzied pace on the front lines, traveling excessively (even during the coronavirus crisis), and/or dealing with problems outside their skillset alone with no meaningful support. All for relatively low or average salaries. - Only management seems to receive real respect and autonomy for their work. Be prepared to be micromanaged in your role by people who have no idea what you do or how your skillset works. - Seemingly no accountability or oversight for bullies, snark, or nasty behavior. People often speak to each other in ways that show lack of respect and professionalism. - Virtually no diversity. Takeoff takes advantage of being international to inflate their diversity numbers. - Leadership seems insecure - motivated by quick "wins" instead of doing the hard work to solve bigger, more systematic issues, like the outdated/unstable tech stack.

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. Our employees are critical to our success, and as such, we have been investing heavily in tools and resources that will help drive performance management, career coaching, and career development. At the end of the day, we are all Rocketberries, and we want each member of our team to be evaluated fairly. Regardless of prior experience or backgrounds, our goal is to build a highly diverse and inclusive team. We will utilize the same metrics and criteria as we continue to evaluate, hire, and promote across the organization.

Best company.... to not work for!

Pros

They refer us as "family".

Cons

It is very true to stay away from companies that refer their employees as part of a "family". They called all of us part of the family but they fired everyone in Ukraine office because "it's a risk". Did not know that you could ditch a "family" just like this. Saw from another post that the CTO is unstable. This is absolutely true. The CTO is an insecure person who likes to use dictatorship and manage by creating fears to establish his authority. By "competitive pay" they mean you will be competing with your own paychecks to stay afloat. They outsourced almost the entire engineering office to India so good luck not getting replaced if you are based in the U.S. With in person activities resuming, the business outlook for Takeoff is more like "Landing". It won't be a soft landing as well.

We are very sorry that you feel that way. Takeoff prides itself in providing a positive environment for our employees. After a thorough business evaluation, Takeoff made the decision to relocate our operations to a location that supports our current business and customers. Takeoff remains committed to standing with Ukraine and wishes our former employees the very best. At Takeoff, we will continue to uphold our core values and maintain a supportive culture for all our employees.

Hostile and low pay

Pros

Invests in its employees (remote work reimbursement, 2-week company-wide GCP training, free lunches). Could be explosive in the grocery automation industry

Cons

Does not invest in its employees in terms of pay. Tech stack is not transferrable. The new head of engineering is subtly creating a hostile work environment. Promotes itself to be a "remote first" company but enforces in office 3 days a week.

Thank you for your feedback. We also believe that we have a great product that will revolutionize the grocery industry. We appreciate your feedback on compensation. We work diligently to ensure we are paying market competitive rates. We gather market data regularly to ensure our compensation practices are competitive. We are actively migrating our tech stack to Golang, Python and GCP, all highly transferrable languages. As you mentioned, the organization invested in a two-week training program to provide the valuable foundation for our GCP migration. Our work environment has certainly been fluid during this period of the pandemic. We have proven that we can work in a remote capacity, however, to continue to accelerate innovation it will be important to be together in the office in a hybrid fashion when the time is right. We believe re-establishing connections in the office will help maintain and reinforce our collaborative culture.
