Pros

They close for every holiday, give you a day off for your birthday and if Christmas and New Years falls on a Monday you'll have the preceding Friday off. If you are a yes person who is able to shut up and do as your told you can go far in the company. They hire older people. No ageism.

Cons

People here including managers will throw you under the bus to save their own skin. There are places in the Western Region Office that have a hostile work environment toward employees that aren't yes men and women. If you question the way something is done or try to present a case for trying a new way of doing things they will accuse you of being defensive and combative. There are managers in the western region that constantly contradict themselves and then blame you when you didn't do your work according to their expectations. They will tell you one thing one week and they deny it the next. They don't give exit interviews or employee evaluations. They claim that they do but I've never been given one. I know others who weren't either. Instead if you make an error, which is very easy to do because you won't be given all the information you need to preform your job they will serve you with a disciplinary action over very small minor errors. Instead of giving you all the information you need to perform your job correctly at the beginning, They will give vague, contradictory directions and wait till you make an error then they write you up for it. Employees are spoken to in a very rude and condescending way. If you try to defend yourself or explain why you made those errors, you will not be allowed to do so. There is no new employee orientation or cohesive training at the western region office. There is a lot of favoritism towards employees that don't rock the boat, basically those that say "yes sir, yes ma'am" and shut up and do as their told even if they know what their being told to doesn't make any sense. This company is very rigid, ultra conservative and old fashioned and not open to new ideas. The turnover is extremely high. Correctional Officers are paid very low wages and are overworked. Funds are available to pay higher wages but those at the top don't care about employees, they'd rather line their own pockets. If you're looking for a company where employees are treated with respect, and allowed to voice their opinions then this is not the place for you. The office environment is the most toxic I've ever experienced.

Pros

Good pay due to federal contract. Fairly simple, straightforward job.

Cons

No affordable benefits and decisions are made to better the company and not made in the employee's interests. Lay offs with one week notice, excuses and general lack of concern for employees. Let detainee population run the facility.
