Office culture can be a bit tense. Interpersonal drama exists, particularly in certain departments. In my experience, most of the “catty” or backstabbing incidents tend to stay isolated within specific groups — most notably among some women in the same department. (I'm not sexist — just reporting what I've observed.)
That said, drama rarely crosses departmental lines, and most male colleagues don't seem to get pulled into it. Still, everyone needs to watch their back. Letting your guard down entirely isn't recommended.
Onboarding is tough. You're thrown in the deep end. If you’re not quick to adapt or self-teach, this work might not be for you.
Training is minimal, and you’ll learn most things by doing or asking for help within your team.
Due to the utter lack of standardization of the basics with multiple ways of doing certain tasks in the system, every association manager has his/her own way of doing things which then creates an environment full of hostile gate keeping out of the fear of teaching a non-team member something and then they do it wrong--ultimately, relfecting poorly on the one(s) involved.
