Pros

Travis County is great employer for any stage of your career. Great retirement, good salary for the area, dedicated work force.

Cons

Some disparity in job titles, salaries between departments when duties and responsibilities are similar. Working for elected officials can be difficult, but sometimes rewarding

Pros

1. Amazing benefits 2. You get all federal holidays off

Cons

1. Salary increases are rare. They are usually across the board for everyone. The best way to get one is to transfer within the county 2. Office politics. It varies depending which department you work in

Pros

Good benefits (vacation, paid time off, healthcare, etc.); relatively progressive in terms of juvenile justice; most positions are well paid relative to other counties (except for treatment staff)

Cons

Promotions are rarely merit based, but rather based on "who you know"; no merit-based raises; treatment staff do not make a competitive salary
