Pros

US Bank has locations all around the United States and it is quite easy to transfer laterally or across your business line if geographic location is necessary. Unlike many other financial institutions, US Bank is willing to promote at higher levels from outside the organization - several VP and higher leaders have history outside USB. Depending on your timing - incentive plans are always a work in progress and at times can be extremely lucrative at all levels. In a time of tumultous banking, US Bank has been led from the top in a very conservative way. . . US Bank will emerge from this time as the 4th to 5th largest financial institution in the United Sates.

Cons

Individuals hired from outside US Bank (or rehired after leaving the bank for a short period) typically get onboarded at a higher salary grade than employees showing loyalty to the company (and receiving annual merit increases). Constant campaigns and changes in initiatives make it difficult to coach/lead to a consistent message. Incentive plan changes from year to year - no consistent expectation around dollars earned. Even in uncertain economic times, the same expectation for growth looms overhead - very rare adjustment to market conditions beyond leadership control. Be ready to be very patient for that dream promotion within US Bank - loyalty and tenure with the company are the lower rated of traits to be considered qualified.

Pros

As a teller, the workload is pretty basic. Customer service skills are a must and are easily mastered with common courtesy. It is a great part time job because it is so simple. The communications between branches are great and networking with other employees is easy and fun. District events are enjoyable. There are many loyal customers who consistently visit US Bank, and it's great to follow the lives of our customers and enjoy their company.

Cons

Asking for any days off, whether required or not, is a hassle, if not impossible. Branch managers are consistently out of the office, and it seems like the workload is thrown onto the CSM, Bankers and Tellers for production. US Bank is very number orientated, tellers are expected to hit there referral mark and bankers are expected to hit their points. Employees can be let go if they do not achieve this. It is very easy to feel lost in the shuffle in the day to day branch work at US Bank, and employees are rarely rewarded for good work that is completed, but talked to about a bad situation. I do not know when raises are ever given, though I've known an employee who has been a teller for years and received one raise. This is not a company I would consider working for more than a part time job, certainly not as a career. And one more thing- eight dollars a day for overdraft fees after four business days is extreme. It's hard to sympathize with customers who overdraft their account, because I could not imagine doing this myself; when it comes to the eight dollars a day, it is hard to stand by US Bank on that policy.

Pros

US Bank is a well managed company that should be around for a long time. Unlike many financial institutions undergoing hard times these days, US Bank executives have kept the company healthy. There are job opportunities accross much of the United States. Some company-owned subsidaries offer jobs internationally. The job stability is very good. Layoffs are very rare. Salaries are fair, though not excessive. The benefits package is also competitive, though not excessively generous. Employee loyaly is rewarded, so if you are the type that wants to stay with the same company until retirement, this US Bank is a good choice.

Cons

US Bank is a large company with over 50,000 employees. There are so many managers, it is impossible to accurately comment on fairness and respect issues. With such a variety of managers there is a wide variety of employee experiences, depending on who you ask. For many technical / professional jobs, relationships can be impersonal accross geographic boundaries. For example, some employee issues may require working with a human resources manager several states away. The stable work force has a downside, that is, fewer opportunities for promotions. And don't expect handsome raises every year. The company is very tight with the budgets.
