Pros

Thoughtful training, autonomy, manage your own schedule.

Cons

Not getting paid.I am writing this during no government shutdown. This issue is not related to what occurred in early 2019. I began work in June, and still not have not been paid for my first pay period. I keep going up against a bunch of bureaucratic crud, and I'm at the point where I can't pay my bills, I can't pay my car payment, I can't pay my car insurance, I can't pay my fuel expenses, and it's insane! A horrific domino effect. Everytime I push payroll, I get told it will be on the next paycheck, and it never comes. I just checked this morning,l because we get paid on Monday, and my check should be in queue now. It is not! I am getting paid for my last pay period worked, but still nothing from my first paycheck which was to have posted on July 1. This past pay period I worked few hours because I'm not able to cover my fuel expenses due to not getting that first paycheck. This has caused me financial chaos because I left a job I was unhappy with for this job. And I'm in the Social Security Ticket-to-Work program, to help me off of Social Security Disability Income, but because of that, I don't have a nest day or resources to tap. It's causing a personal financial spiral. It shouldn't have been this way, and I don't understand why I can't get paid. It's a violation of labor laws! Potential census workers, beware!

Pros

Some flexibility in your schedule, autonomy to get the job done

Cons

Employee performance ratings are based on completion of assigned cases by artificial deadlines, and in order to meet those goals you must work excessive hours that include most evenings, weekends, and holidays. No overtime is allowed, yet you are encouraged to work more than 8 hrs per day and 40 hours per week while they look the other way. You roll those hours forward into the next week and then the following week until you can claim them. This would be illegal for any other employer, yet the federal government gets away with it. They are not subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act. If you have a complaint, it has to be made to the Office of Personnel Management, and they simply do nothing. New employees are classified as "intermittent" regardless of the number of hours worked every week and are not eligible for any pay increases (other than a possible annual cost of living increase) or any type of paid leave, including annual leave, sick leave or holiday pay. You must work in this status for FOUR YEARS before you can be made a permanent employee and become eligible for benefits or pay raises. Entry pay is low (and you stay at this same pay level for at least 4 years with no increase); working conditions are undesirable and often dangerous. There is no consideration given to those who work in the trenches. And there is no reward for doing outstanding work, taking on the toughest cases and converting them, and having the highest production rate.

Pros

- The pay. Definitely did not earn that much working per hour. - Flexible hours. Pretty could as many hours as I wanted. Generally went out 4-6 hours a day. - You do work alone. Which is a benefit if you prefer it that way. - Despite living in my state all my life went into some areas I have never been too. - Met some interesting people. All walks of life.

Cons

- Such a short period of time being employed (Little over 2 months.) - Not everyone will comply with wanting to do the survey. Actually a majority didn't. Had plenty of people slam the door in my face. Others were very vocal about being anti-government.
