Pros

The benefits and the pay.

Cons

Sell, sell, sell - even if someone was just calling in asking about charges, etc.... I actually was written up for not offering someone that was over $2,000 in the hole a CREDIT CARD!!! Talk about issuing someone a shovel when they are in the hole. I figured we would never get paid the arrears, and then to give them a credit card with a 5 grand limit ---- HELLO!

Pros

USAA is great for career advancement because the company is very large and has a variety of career opportunites. There is ample communication between management and staff with a company website and different vehicle for posting ideas and greivances. Recently there was a change at CEO and this has definately impoved the company for the better as the new CEO is interested in employees and happiness and balance. The compensation could be better, but opportunity and appreciation make up for this short coming.

Cons

The work/life balance is off . Enployees are tethered to a blackberry and can be called at any time. The job required more than 40 hours regularly and it was pretty high stress. Also, the salary could be improved for what is expected.

Pros

Great benefits. Decent pay. As a company, it seems to encourage and provide for professional (ie certifications, education) development.

Cons

It's a call center. There used to be pride in the concept of providing actual competent financial advice. Now it's about how much product can be shoved out the door and how fast. Management is either blind or deceitful in their descriptions of perceived issues voiced by financial advisors as a group. Perhaps like any other organization, management is composed of a few competent, respectful and enjoyable mangers, but also is replete with those whose primary concern is not allowing their shortcomings or mistakes to be noticed/seen/heard by others so as to advance their postion. In general, chance can be good. However, it seems that the mantra is change is always good without any forethought as to whether or not change for the sake of change is sensible. Unfortunately, there seems to be decension among the ranks and many hardly ever know what's going on, and belief in direct management and morale is often quite low.
