Pros

Pay and benefits are among the best you would find anywhere. The facilities and amenities are outstanding.

Cons

Employees are not valued as highly as they should be. At the management level and above, there is no work/life balance. There is a culture of fear that prevents the best ideas from moving forward. A very bureaucratic, good old boy network prevails.

Pros

The people. usaa has very talented, nice caring employees. claims technology is good and getting better. you have a combination of sick days and vacation, about 30 days. The employees create activities to alleviate the stress. Its real good experience. They are real tough on you. If you work at USAA, you can work anywhere.

Cons

the claims system at usaa as far as customer service is horrible. the system was created by someone who has no idea what it means to be an adjuster. they are trying to fit a circle into a triangle. they have their adjusters answer calls in a call center environment, call after call and then ask them to adjust claims in between claims. the downside to that is that a customer have a very hard time reaching their adjuster. in some cases, your adjuster may not call you back, not because they don't want to, they are too busy to. management even ask adjusters not to make out calls on mondays, which adjusters find idiotic and totally ignore it. Most mid-level managers are pretty good, but can't do their jobs properly because they asked to micro-manage. They too are under the gauntlet. USAA do not allow one to properly do their job in the manner that they ask.

Pros

The company has served in a reasonable capacity working with the military. Military members in the past have been able to count on USAA for support in automobile insurance.

Cons

Childish attitudes, poor management, low morale. Here are some examples: Employees are asked to dress up in demeaning costumes and are issued an "oops" for accidentally reaching internet sites USAA deems inappropriate. The company is full of people ready and willing to stab you in the back just so they can get a small promotion or additional pay as a result. Poor housekeeping--unbelievably the restroom floors are urine soaked most of the time. Interestingly the middle managers (VPs, AVPs) walk through it as if everything is normal. It makes you wonder about their ability to process information and use it appropriately. Company cafeterias would be better if they would eliminate rotten/rotting food. People tend to use USAA as a place for a stopping point until they can find a decent job.
