Pros

Good PTO, sick hours, stock purchase benefits, 401k matching, decent place to start as a new grad RN. Able to move through floors through experience and timing (such as med/surg, IMC, ICU or ER). Seniority and loyalty pays off the longer you stay at the company

Cons

For-profit hospital that only protects its profits and not staff or patients. Hospital equipment is old while they go off and build new hospitals and facilities. Non-unionized and hospital abuses staff by pushing unsafe nurse-patient ratios which diminishes quality of care. Staffing and HR depts constantly giving attitude to nursing staff. Doctors disregard nurses and intimate them. Management of course takes their side. Nurses are not highly regarded here, are basically the scapegoat if anything goes wrong. Erratic timing of salary increase. Blatant use of favoritism.

Pros

You will learn at a pace that is wayyyyyy faster than any other position in the social work field. If you want to boost your career and become an extremely knowledgeable clinician, this is the right place for you. However, if you are lazy or expect an “easy” job where you can coast, this is NOT the opportunity for you.

Cons

Work-life balance is poor and work load is really difficult to manage. The expectations are really high, almost to a point where it feels unattainable at times. However, if you can find a way to make this job work and master it, you have gained life skills on how to manage your life in general, and that is the ultimate benefit. You will learn to set boundaries, you will learn human behavior to a degree that no book can teach, and you will have the skills to manage yourself and to work smart.
