Pros

The company cares a lot about its employees. If you work hard and do good work, you will be rewarded and recognized. Catered lunches twice a week. Good benefits. Many fun activities. A fun atmosphere and great coworkers. Management that cares. A lot of people actually look forward to coming into work each day, and I'm definitely one of those employees that appreciates being in that kind of environment.

Cons

There are three separate offices which means that you aren't guaranteed to be in the same physical place as your coworkers.

Sinking ghost ship

Pros

Great benefits: Free lunches 2x a week + unlimited snacks In office massages Free clubs, such as boot camp and yoga Great people team: Really care about the employees Continuously asking for feedback Listens to suggestions from any employee (Some) Great ppl: Hardworking smart team mates that are great at what they do

Cons

Management: Many first time ppl managers with little to no training equals a lot of frustration and micro management. Not a lot of transparency in decision making. Favouritism is a thing here on several teams. Constant change in directions means projects stopping mid way or having to redo things more then a sane person should have to. Layoffs: Weird handling of layoffs and a lot of empty spaces makes coming to work a little odd and the offices are often rather empty. Morale: Despite the efforts of the people team in cheering people up with fun events, the morale is not positive. After a handful of unexpected layoffs and departures, many long time employees have started leaving which doesn't sit well for current employees that might feel like staying means going down with the ship.

Pros

Work from home is an option No micromanaging Free food twice a week Good benefits Nice people to work with Great place to for your first job out of college

Cons

Too much change, too fast with little or no vision. Execs seem lost when it comes to operations. Company grew too fast. Seems like all managers are managing for the first time. Promotes from within at times of turbulent change that may not be the right fit for a position. Pay is well below industry standard. Product needs a lot of work to keep up with changing technology. Needs to be more innovation from all within the company.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this review. I’m glad to hear that you were able to find a lot of pros while working with UserTesting, but I’d love to take time to address the cons that you mentioned. I agree that we have been growing very fast, and with that growth has come some growing pains. We do have a bold vision for the role UserTesting plays in creating great user experiences, along with a well-planned strategy for how to achieve our vision. Over the last few months, we’ve have made significant efforts to proactively share our vision and strategy with our employees. While it’s hard to put the right person in the right position every time, we’re committed to promoting from within, if and when possible. UserTesting prides itself on being a place where our employees can grow their careers, and something we actively take steps to ensure we continue to do. We’ll continue to balance promoting from within with the need to make key outside hires. In regards to pay, we evaluate the compensation of our employees annually and we are committed to pay in line with the market. Over the past years, we have made constant adjustments to our employees’ pay to recognize the increasing skill level our employees attain as they work at UserTesting. Regarding your point about our Product Team, this is a big year, and we plan to release double the number of new features as last year! Regarding diversity within the company - UserTesting is actively committed to increasing the diversity of our workforce. Our Talent team proactively seeks out candidates with diverse profiles for every one of our open positions, and we make particular efforts to attain a diverse group of students for our internship program. Our employee communities make a significant effort to increase the awareness and support for employees of all backgrounds, and we heartily welcome referrals and applicants for our open positions that will help increase our diversity. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. We take the feedback provided on Glassdoor, as well as our quarterly engagement surveys very seriously. Our executive and leadership teams review the feedback provided, take action, and evaluate our results on an ongoing basis. I’m sorry that you didn’t have a 5 out of 5 experience at UserTesting, and we’re are hopeful the ongoing actions we take in response to feedback from our current and former employees will ensure UserTesting continues its incredible growth and success, and that our company remains a great place for our employees to work and grow their careers.

Some great people, but TERRIBLE management style

Pros

- Good remote culture. No one ever complained about having remote folks. We got stuff done when we needed to. - Good benefits for the most part

Cons

- Zero tolerance for people who work outside of the very narrow culture spectrum - Use of Intel's OKR approach to prioritizing work has lead to enormous amount of technical debt, most of which we were often too late to implement (read: downtime) - One-on-one check-ins with managers who know nothing about what you do day to day - Protectionist culture from software engineers who have been there longer than you means subpar ideas get implemented because they trump you on tenure

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Since one of our core values is to get better, we always take feedback seriously and will use these points within our retrospectives to self-reflect and identify ways we can improve where needed. We’re proud of the way that we’ve been able to incorporate our remote employees so that they are productive and feel like part of the UserTesting family, and we’ve made a ton of great strides with our benefits in the past few years so that now we offer some of the most competitive benefits around, so it’s nice to hear that you valued these things as part of your experience at UserTesting. We’re very concerned that you felt like you had to work within a confined culture spectrum. We value any and all different opinions and perspectives; in fact we think that it makes our company more effective. Having said that, we do have a set of core values (get better, customers first, keep it simple, own results, be kind) that are essential to the company that we expect that all employees demonstrate. Additionally, our culture really values collaboration, openness, and teamwork and despite our best efforts in interviewing and hiring, we have found that it can be frustrating to individuals who prefers alternative work styles that aren’t conducive to what we value. We celebrate when individuals see the value and are open to improving skills in this area through mentoring and support. Likewise we are disappointed when individual preferences preclude them from improvement. Thank you so much for your opinions on OKRs. OKRs are still fairly new to us, so we admit that there is a learning curve and and we need to get better at using them. Notwithstanding the growing pains, we feel like they’re the best way to measure our goals and our success against those goals. Over the past couple of years, we have learned so much in this area and we have striven and continue to strive to continuously improve our OKR process. It was unfortunate that you did not feel that you did not get value from the one-on-ones with your manager and that you felt that they did not understand what you did day to day. Our managers care a lot about the success of their direct reports and work hard to ensure that support is meaningful. We have found that the best way for individuals day to day work to be seen and appreciated by team leads, peers, and managers is to make sure that the work that is being done is related to the work the team is doing, exists in our project management tracking tools, is reviewed in pull requests by peers, and discussed in our daily standups. We’re sorry to hear that you felt that your opinions weren’t valued because of a lack of tenure. In our industry and at our company, there are so many changes that we have to value the opinions of all of our employees, whether they’ve been here for five years or five weeks. Our Engineering Team also prides itself on its openness and collaboration. All ideas are vetted out in the open with the whole team and have to get the proper buy in before they are implemented. As a result, we are always experimenting and making decisions based on empirical data and collective experience because we know that the best ideas, no matter the tenure of the source, will win.

Pros

The people at UserTesting are absolutely amazing to work with. Everyone is friendly and collaborating with others is a pleasure. The pay is competitive and the benefits are even better. Being a feedback company, management are always open to feedback and looking at ways to get better. After having worked in some not so great environments, I'm happy to say that I've found a long-term home here at UserTesting.

Cons

The commute to work can be a little long if you don't live near one of the offices.

UserTesting appreciates your feedback and would like to take this opportunity to listen, learn, and improve moving forward. We are always looking to create new ways to recognize our team’s performance and provide credit to the individuals that help us drive our business. One way we recognize top performing employees is through promotions and the SDR Team has seen a large amount of internal mobility in the last year. In fact, more than 25% of our SDR Team has been promoted during the last 12 months, with numerous other promotions from years prior. We are sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet your desired outcome. We will factor your feedback into how UserTesting makes decisions moving forward.
