Pros

Excellent pay, relatively flexible scheduling depending on hospital. Amazing model to have customers in the back. Adore being able to GSAFF and accommodating deserving customers. I can practice great medicine *when appropriately staffed!!*

Cons

The manifesto two years ago was inspiring and motivating; as the company has grown and acquired more "cooks in the kitchen" the manifesto is more often used to gaslight staff and veterinarians, which is so sad. The honest medicine has been replaced by unrealistic/toxic positivity, high staff turn over, constant staffing shortages due to call-outs, management "listening" without action. Top priority is good reviews to impress upper management, my hospital will cater to the most cruel, toxic, and lying customers to save face.

Hi there. We really appreciate your honest feedback as we constantly look for ways to improve. We are so sorry that you have had a negative experience at VEG- your experience really matters to us. The Manifesto is meant to inspire VEGgies and remind us of our mission every day, which is helping people and their pets when they need it most. Within the Manifesto, there are themes that outline who VEGgies are and why our culture is different: we lead through love, we model the way, we challenge the process, we enable others to act, and so much more. As VEG grows quickly, and as there are more cooks in the kitchen, the Manifesto connects us to VEG’s mission and to each other every single day. VEG is growing fast, and growing pains can happen as we work on continuing to be the world’s Veterinary Emergency Company. Toxic positivity is never the goal- working in emergency veterinary medicine is tough and we want to inspire and motivate our employees to constantly learn and grow while feeling connected to their meaning. Your perspective and experience is important to us, and we encourage you to set up time with your People Partner to go through the concerns you mentioned above, so that we can address them as our company and culture continues to evolve.

Pros

Will always have open shifts (because they don’t hire sufficient coverage or prepare for call-outs.) More advantageous and “cohesive” … if you’re located on the East Coast. Great place for doctors and new vet grads… significantly less so for any other position. You won’t have to worry about management standing over your shoulder (they’d have to be physically present to do so).

Cons

Must ascribe to “The Manifesto” every moment while present - drink the koolaid or prepared to be targeted. Toxic Positivity is king. Sip it in and do not expresses any negative sentiments because you will be censored and reprimanded. Be prepared for blatant contradictions and double standards among the “team”. Makes many promises in the hiring process and may appear to be ShangriLa… be prepared for that shine to wear off and seem more like a toxic glow. “Work/Life balance”?! Yeah… no. “There for people and their pets when they need it most”… but not their employees. Full benefits may begin from day one but they are lousy. You can try to polish a turd but it’s still a turd. Big bad wolf in sheep’s clothing. -10 out of 5. Hard pass.

Pros

Competitive pay, free food, good benefits

Cons

Clients literally can be there 24/7, including during busy treatment times. Focus has become more on good reviews and making clients happy over practicing good medicine Not every location is the same

We appreciate your honest feedback, as we are always looking to improve as a company. Our mission at VEG is helping people and their pets when they need it most. Keeping people and their pets together is a huge part of that, and it’s what makes VEG different from all other ER facilities. Keeping families with their pets together throughout their time at VEG provides peace of mind and transparency throughout the entire treatment process. It also provides comfort to both the patient and pet parent, and allows us to provide the best possible care experience. It’s also important to note that above all else, patient care is our top priority. All of our recent graduate doctors as well as those coming from a field outside of emergency go through a 6 month intense training to fully prepare them for any kind of emergency at our hospitals.Through this hands-on training, they refine their fundamental medical knowledge, technical skills, and spend time learning how to approach to ER cases and how to practice medicine the VEG Way. They also spend time learning at Colorado State University’s Translational Medicine Institute, where they refine their skills in areas like surgery, ultrasound, endoscopy, exotics, and more. We invest in our VEGgies learning and training so that they are prepared for anything and everything when working at VEG. On top of this comprehensive training, all of our doctors, technicians, and assistants have unlimited access to continuing education to always stay up to date in the latest techniques in performing better medicine. Given that you are a career veterinary technician, your experience and skills at VEG were deeply valued, and we are sorry if you felt as though they weren’t. Every VEGgie plays a valuable role in our company's success. We hope you find a position where you feel happy and we wish you all the best in your career!
