Pros

I started with Vangst as a recruiter, and am now a Strategic Account Manager, and I can very confidently say that if you come in and perform, you will 100% find many opportunities to grow. A generous compensation plan (which includes quarterly bonuses for doubling your goal - something that is absolutely doable) allows for you to earn a six figure OTE, something I had not accomplished before my time at Vangst. The company is a start-up, so there are lots of opportunities to carve out your own space and develop new areas of value for the organization. You are given a lot of autonomy and freedom when it comes to how you're structuring your day. The idea is that everyone works differently, so as long as you have some sort of structure that works for you, why try and change something that's working. If you're struggling, though, your structure may be tweaked by management to try and generate some activity, but never in a "micro-managey" sort of way. Unlimited PTO and the ability to have a flexible schedule is great. There are regular company happy hours, and a general sense of inclusivity among the employees. Many have become friends through the company, and hang out regularly outside of work. Company provides laptops for their employees as well!

Cons

The double-edged sword of a start-up company: You will have tremendous opportunity for growth and there are rewards, but you're flying the plane as it is being built. Essentially, you need to be on board with a very high degree of flexibility and adaptability when it comes to processes. If you're not someone who can function in an environment where there aren't established SOPs for every situation, this probably isn't the company for you. Again, though, that is how it goes with start-ups and is not a reflection of Vangst in particular.

Pros

Recruiters and in house devs are talented, motivated, and enthusiastic. Overall great co-workers. You get a pizza party when people get fired!

Cons

Management froze dev salaries 3 days before the one year performance review. Reason given was: "app is not profitable" - if you have even a small understanding of what engineers do this should be a red flag. Engineering management has no authority or autonomy and is forced to follow the whims of C levels who do not participate in the engineering/product process. Entire product team was recently outsourced and the development team is probably next. I would speculate that the (functional but admittedly flawed) product that is already released and handling every user Vangst GIGS has is likely to be scrapped. If that is the case it will be rebuilt at extraordinary cost as they are to be built by an external consultancy that was recently hired. Market research was seemingly an afterthought and even after it was done it was largely ignored. This companies oversight regarding engineering is the epitome of seagull management.

Pros

There's a great team around you. The people genuinely care about each other!

Cons

It's a start-up, so the "cons" are related to general start-up stuff. At the time, lacked processes and a strategy for the team.
