Pros

Big company Good benefits Work/life balance is great - no need to work hard, you'll never be fired

Cons

Pay is a disgrace to financial professionals Takes years to earn a livable wage There are people in portfolio management at Vanguard that do not belong in the financial services industry, let alone the company Upward mobility is terrible if you don't fit their ethnic/gender description (must be female/nonwhite/attractive to move up) There are people placed in positions out of fear of being sued or in the name of diversity regardless of experience or skill set Company consists of cogs in a wheel, you are easily replaceable

Pros

Great company...to invest. Just don't take their advice or investment "education". Chances are the rep you're speaking with is probably a recent college grad with little to know investment knowledge and is just reading off a script provided to them by Vanguard.

Cons

Call-center environment, micro-managers, required to participate in "voluntary" United Way activities, given movie tickets and candy bars as recognition, bonuses barely keep up with inflation, more tenured and knowledgeable employees being pushed out, replaced with just-out-of-college new hires that can be trained to think the Vanguard way, not very much diversity in the workforce, career opportunities plateau at a certain point, not much career mobility, salaries are a good 20% below industry, they try and say benefits make up for that...but they don't.

Pros

I guess benefits is the only pro

Cons

Management is untrustworthy, they do not listen to any feedback you give them . Should also be careful because any opinions or your feelings should not be shared with anyone Vanguard, they do not take kindly to that .The stability of the institutional investor group is going out the window. The goal is to get the customers off the phones ASAP because they are costing Vanguard money. Essentially that means that they are not following Vanguard’s mission statement. Very disheartening to work here and witness it firsthand.
